I just did a google search for Talbott. The Talbott post office is in Hamblen Co., but the Talbott websites say it's in Jefferson. My relative who lived in Talbott lived in Jefferson Co. Of course, before 1870 that whole area would have been Jefferson. Censuswise, Hamblen only appeared in 1880. One must be careful with Post Office addresses. My address is a city in VA; I live in the neighboring county. Bill
Talbott Tn would be in the Hamblen Co census. there is a Mt Horeb cemetery in Jefferson City Barbara
Hello, Yes I spelled Dumplin with an G. I am sorry to anyone it might of upset. Paula Cannon
Hi Janice, Mount Horeb community, church, and cemetery, are on Mount Horeb Road, which intersect Miller and Tom Breeden Roads, NW of Dumplin Valley Road. Go to mapquest.com and put in Mount Horeb, TN. Did somebody spell Dumplin with an "g"? I'm still testing, by the way. I got one message from this list, but I think there have been some that I've missed. Bill Hurst
Hi Janice, If no one else can tell you where the church is before I can get back to you, I will let you know something in a few days. I did live in Jefferson County and I know where the cemetery is, but I can't tell you how to get there until I drive over there Thursday for a Dr. appt. Hopefully, someone else can tell you before then. If not, I will be in touch. Newport Public Library has info on Jefferson County deaths and funeral homes and census records. Can someone tell me how I find out what district Talbott, TN is in on the 1910 Jefferson County census? Can someone tell me where I can find out what cemetaries are around Talbott? I am looking for a Mount ?Horb?. Can someone tell me where I can find probate records for Jefferson County? I am looking for records on my gggrandmother, Lucinda Line(s), who died in Talbott in 1918 and according to her death certificate was buried in Mount ?Horb? cemetary in Talbott. The undertaker was L.D. Calyer. Can anyone help me? I would appreciate any assistance I can get. Thanks! -- Janice Neagle, PHR Human Resource Director Cowley County Community College
Hello, I wanted to forward the following announcement to this list to anyone with an interest in this week's brown bag lecture at the East Tennessee Historical Society. If you are in the Knoxville area on Wednesday, you might enjoy dropping by the East Tennessee History Center to hear this free lecture on Davy Crockett. ---------------------------------------- ETHS ANNOUNCEMENT -- With all due respect to Walt Disney, Davy Crockett was not born on a mountaintop, nor did he kill a bear at the age of three. The real David Crockett is the subject of the first East Tennessee Historical Society (ETHS) Brown Bag Lecture of 2003. Crockett researcher Joe Swann will present a free lecture, The Crockett Rifle and Davys Life in East Tennessee, at noon on Wednesday, February 12, at the East Tennessee History Center in downtown Knoxville (600 Market St.). Swann will explore a variety of topics in his lecture including the Crockett rifle currently on display in the East Tennessee Historical Society Museum, as well as a discussion of other rifles from the era. In addition, Swann will discuss Crocketts life in East Tennessee from his birth in 1786 to 1812, as well as the home neighborhoods of the Crockett family and their neighboring settlers. Swann is currently working on a book about Crockett's years in East Tennessee. The lecture is the first in the ETHS popular brown bag lecture series of 2003. The 13th year of the series will feature a variety of speakers and topics relating to artifacts and stories found within the East Tennessee Historical Society Museum in downtown Knoxville. The theme was chosen in honor of the museums tenth anniversary. Swann, a past president of the East Tennessee Historical Society, currently serves as vice mayor of Maryville, Tennessee. He is the owner of the Crockett rifle on display in the ETHS Museum. The rifle is the first owned by Davy Crockett and is considered one of the most historic artifacts on display in the ETHS Museum. Swann and his family made the gun available for display in East Tennessee when the museum opened in 1993 so the gun could be viewed in Davys home region. Prior to its arrival at the ETHS Museum, the rifle had been on display at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, DC, and the Tennessee State Museum in Nashville. Recently, the rifle was on loan as part of the first exhibit at the new Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum in Austin. Davy Crockett gave the rifle to Swanns great-great-great grandfather, James McCuistion, in 1806 in Jefferson County, Tennessee. The ETHS Brown Bag Lectures are generally held on the second Wednesday of each month at noon and are free to the public. The 2003 lecture series will run from February through October. Guests are encouraged to bring a sack lunch to enjoy during the lunch hour presentation. Soft drinks will be available through ETHS. Lectures are held at the East Tennessee History Center (600 Market St.) in downtown Knoxville. The East Tennessee Historical Society, headquartered in Knoxville, is one of the oldest cultural institutions in the state of Tennessee. Founded in 1834, ETHS is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving, interpreting, and promoting the history of East Tennessee. The societys programs and activities are made possible through the support of its membership. For additional information about the 2003 Brown Bag Lecture Series and other ETHS activities, call (865) 215-8824 or visit the societys web site at www.east-tennessee-history.org. --------------------

Hello, I just got home from Jefferson County. For the enactment for the Heart Land show of the Battle of Mossy Creek, The story of Capt. Elbert Cannon being a home town boy getting killed in the battle. It was a wonderful day. All but the cold, rain and sleet. LOL. I want to thank everyone for being so helpful and nice. Paula Cannon.
Sorry for this test. I have been getting unsubscribed from this list, even though I'm using a perfectly good address assigned by some company named Microsoft. I do have lots of ancestors from Jefferson Co., including those listed on the subject line. Bill Hurst

Both gave to sons the name Moses Hodge. I believe both families came from the area around Knoxville, Tennessee, and were in some fashion related to War of 1812 soldier Moses Hodge, who may have been the one with that name in Grainger County, TN in 1810.
