Surnames: Courtney Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/nhB.2ACI/1250 Message Board Post: Can anyone tell me what district Bent Creek would have fallen in prior to 1850? The Jefferson County deed index uses as a description, Bent Creek. I'm trying to differentiate this from the 15th District (also used as a descriptor), so I can sort out some of the individuals who share common names. I believe that Bent Creek falls in the 13th District, but don't know that for certain. If anyone might have an answer to this, I would appreciate the assistance. Regards, Morgan H Courtney

    3. Hi again Janice, I see 9 different Line family households in Jefferson and Hamblen in 1910. I don't see Lucinda in any of the households. The ones in Jefferson Co. are: Charity E. Line, age 70, 9th Dist. John A., 45, 9th Mahala A., 66, 9th Mary A., 45, 9th Kises or Kiser, 42, 1st Dist. Hamblen Co., all 2nd Dist.: A. Porter Line, 58 Ailsie, 48 Hugh H., 24 John B., 43 Along the way I noticed Hugh H. Line was living two doors down from my grandparents. Also, I found an aunt-by-marriage at age 7. Hadn't seen that record before. There were some Lines, with an "s", but not in these two counties. Any relation to Milburn Line, who used to be a judge in Hamblen Co.? Bill

    3. Bill - You are great! Actually Lucinda's death certificate has her name as Lines, but all of my family information has it Line. Her death certificate says that she died in Talbott on October 30, 1918 and is buried in Mount Horeb. Her husband, Nathaniel Line, died in 1912 in Iola, Allen County, Kansas and is buried there. I kept looking for her there, but could not find her. For some reason, I was looking at Jefferson County death records and found her name there and ordered the death certificate. I have her father's name as Lihue? Smith (born in Hamblen County) and her mother's name is Allcie Burkett (born in Sevier County). I guess what I really need is a 1915 census, but there probably isn't one. I will try the districts you put down and start looking for familiar names. Hugh Nathaniel was Nathaniel and Lucinda's son (my great-grandfather). I don't recognize the name Milburn Line, but who knows. Thanks again for all of your time and effort!!! 3. The address is: Stokely Memorial Library, 383 E. Broadway, Newport, Tn. 37821. Phone # is 423-623-3832. I don't know if they will give you any info or not. If it is something simple, I can probably get it for you one day when I am there, if they won't. The Dandridge Public Library is 1235 Circle Drive, Dandridge, Tn.37725. Phone # 865-397-9758. I haven't done any research at Dandridge, so I don't know if they have a geneology department. Most records may be at Jefferson County Courthouse, same town. 3. Hamblen or Jefferson doesn't help me much because the census is still listed in Districts and not cities. I realize that I can write a historical society or genealogical society and maybe find this out, but can anyone tell me by e-mai how to tell where the districts are, or where on the internet I can find that type of information?
