I'm for one hope nothing bad happens to the Jefferson Co court house. It a good place to research. I can't say enough good things about the folks in the research areas. I was there last summer and met some of the finest people I have ever come across in my years of research. PLEASE keep up the good work, your folks are the greatest. I hope to get back up this summer and do more work on my Britton, Mitchell and McFaul families. Most of all I would like to say thank you all for your help. I was wondering if anyone out there had census indexes available for 1860 and 1870. I'm looking for several members of my Smith family...most especially Jacob C. Smith. I'm also looking for W. A. Wonder if someone out there can help. Family information indicates the following: James HAMILTON(believed born about 1794, poss Grainger County- believed died about 1846), married to Nancy CHILDERS poss 22 Nov 1816 in Grainger County. Known children are: Elizabeth(b: 1816-1819) who married William J. PARSLEY in Jefferson County in 1837 and moved to Morgan County, Il. about 1840. Benjamin Franklin(b: 30 Aug 1820) who married Elizabeth Jane POLLARD (b: 11 Nov 1819 in Va.) Elizabeth is known to have brothers George and Jim as well as being related somehow to the HICKMAN family. Benjamin and Elizabeth moved to Morgan County, Illinois in 1839. Have a number of possible ties to the Childers and Pollard families but hoping someone has a solid connecting piece of information. Hi Patrick, I have been gone and so I am beginning to go through my huge backlog of email and would be most interested in seeing if there are any marriage listings for the name "McCulley", or any similar variations such as McCullough, McCulloch, McCullock, McCulla, McCuller, McCullum, etc. My third great grandfather was born 1790 in Jefferson county, TN - 'William McCulley' - we have no exact location or names of parents or other relatives. The only possible connection that we do know could be through the 'Tobias Wilhelm' family that were in Jefferson county and later are found in Jackson county, AL, with the McCulleys. Tobias' daughter, 'Aisley' marries William in 1810 in AL and they have a large family together. William died in July of 1840 and Aisley is alive for the 1850 census, but is not listed in the 1860 census. Family given names that are later used are: James, William, Richard, George, Franklin and Charles, Henry and John. But I would be happy to collect any information or leads on these elusive MCCULLEY's, as well as marriage information. Any marriage information on the WILHELMS would also be appreciated. Thank you for your time and generosity in sharing this information. This line was inter-married to other local families such as the: BLACKBURN, EDWARDS, SNODGRASS, WILLIAMS, HAMILTON, CARTRIGHT, HALE, LANNING, just to mention a few. I'm looking for Suzannah MOYERS, a.k.a. Susan MYERS whom lived in the northern district of White Pine, Dandridge, Jefferson Co. TN on a large farm in 1830 and 1840 census records, married prior to Enoch WILLOUGHBY, spelled somewhat differently in Jeff Co records - almost a polish spelling of sorts. She raised my GGG James (below) Napoleon MYRES/MYERS and I'm always hopeful that someone knows more on how he came about. I've acquired old court probate and adoption records from Jeff Co but my luck, these records, thou very old, only went up to the year of 1832, my James was b. in 1839. His reported cousin, John MOYERS (m. to Nancy GANN/GAINER/FARRER) "I believe" was indentured to Suzannah MOYERS brother Christopher and father James MOYERS... but nothing is certain.
