Henry was indeed born in 1795, but it is his father, John, who died in 1857 and married Ann THORNBURG. I am still trying to find out what became of Henry and Lucrecy. I have located a Henry BALES in Independence Co., AR in 1840 and 1850. The 1850 census says he was born in TN. He appears to be about the right age to the same Henry who was born in Jefferson Co., TN. In 1850 he was married to an Elizabeth. The IGI says this is Elizabeth PEARSON, married in 1842. But some of the children listed in 1850 are older, indicating that this Henry had another wife. My theory is that the Henry BALES b. 1795 in Jefferson Co., TN could be the same Henry BALES later found in Independence Co., AR. I am looking for anything to support this theory.

The sixth annual Nelson Family Reunion for the descendants of Jave and Ellen Evans Nelson will be Saturday June 28, 2003, at the Farmers Grove Baptist Church fellowship hall, beginning at 11:30 A. M. Bring covered dishes for lunch, pictures, family stories, and other memorabilia for sharing. We are in the process of compiling a family cookbook, so we would like recipes from everyone. There will be fun and games for the kids after lunch. Jave Nelson is said to be a direct descendant of Joseph Anderson for whom Anderson County is named. Joseph Anderson was a Revolutionary War soldier, U. S. congressman, and first comptroller of the U. S. Treasury. He is buried in the Congressional Cemetery in Washington, D. C. Ellen Evans Nelson's parents were Thomas J. Evans and Permelia York Evans, daughter of Joseph York who was born in Tennessee in 1802, and Mary York. Thomas and Permelia came to Tennessee after the Civil War. Thomas Evans and other family members are buried in Sunset Cemetery in Anderson County. Permelia York Evans supposedly died and was buried at Clouds Switch, TN in Claiborne County, TN in 1901. Jave and Ellen's children included David, Henry, Catherine Nelson Tadlock, Frank, Tom, Cynthia Nelson Wilson, Page, Taylor, Sam, Clara, and two others who died as infants. Jave and Ellen are buried in the Liberty Cemetery near New Salem Baptist Church. Jave possibly had a sister named Margaret. Ellen Evans Nelson's siblings included Hugh Evans, former Clinton city marshall, Silas, Mary Evans Phelps, Martha, Sintha, Thomas Milton and John. Jave Nelson was sometimes called J. M. or Jabers. If any of these names ring a bell, we'd love to hear from you. You may contact: Carolyn Nelson Johnson at <mamawcarolyn@ntown.com>.

My James Dudley Talley is thought to be the brother of Benoni Carter Talley, I have no proof of his parentage. My Talley's and Campbells tie in together in Cocke county Tn. Could it be suggested that Carter Hills may be in Cocke county TN? I am sorry I can be of no help but I would like to pass on an email address of someone that may be able to help. Please write to me at Lizbeth6302@msn.com and I will give you his email. He has more info on the Talley's than anyone I know. Tracy Smelcer Estepp

In a letter that Lou Handy wrote in 1936 she makes this statement ,"Lucy Reed, of Boston, wife of Peyton Talley, was related to William Lee the father of Thomas Lee. Lucy Reed's mother was a Lee, and Lucy Lee's mother was a Golden. The Carter Hills, Campbells, Jones, Carters are all related to the family of Robert E. Lee." Lou Handy is suppose to be from the line of Benoni "Carter" Talley. She is the one that states that Carter's parents are Peyton Talley and Lucy Reed. I thought we needed to find out where Carter Hills is. The thought has been that she was maybe to young to remember or understand much about what her grandmother Lucy Talley Jones said about this family.---Lucy Talley Jones lived with Lou Handy's parents for a time. Can you answer the question as to where Carter Hills is?---or is she talking about a place here?

Richard C. Boulineau is shown on the internet to have died in Jefferson Co., TN in 1981. Would anyone there be able to provide me with an obituary? I would pay for your time and printing. I don't have anymore info or I would not be making this query. Thanks Bill Boulineau Antigo, WI boulinea@dwave.net

His first wife's name is unknown at this point and she was the mother of his children. Linda M. was the widow of James Moore, and is buried with him in Grainger Co. She and Samuel were only married a few years before he died and they had no children, but he did have step children from her marriage to James Moore.
