Amy HENSLEY in Jefferson Co., 22 April 1817. Harmon is found in Monroe Co., 1830 Census; Bradley Co., 1840 Census, and in Roane Co., 1850 Census. He is a widower in 1850, m. Eliza PARKER, 14 Dec 1851. Several of the HENSLEY families came into the Hiwassee District, Roane Co. from Jefferson/Grainger/possibly Claiborne areas, and wonder if this is what brought Harmon to that area of Roane Co. One son carries JENKINS/GENKINS as a middle name, which might be a clue to the next generation back. In 1850 Census, it states Harmon was b. NC. (Also found spelled Harman.) Looking for approximate time of arrival of the GRIFFIN family in Jefferson Co., and also interested in early HENSLEY families.

Hi, I would like to let everyone know that a THOMAS surname DNA project is beginning. There are several groups of Thomses in East Tennessee - Blount, Sevier, Cocke, Sullivan, Jefferson counties - that would love to learn if they are connected. Conventional research has thus far turned up nothing concrete. Of course our project is not solely focused on east Tennessee. We hope to find connections between family lines all over the country and even out of the country if possible. If you know a Thomas male who might like to join, please direct them to me at btchaffin@comcast.net or to http://www.familytreedna.com/surname_det.asp?group=Thomas. Thanks for your help, Bonnie Thomas Chaffin

Surnames: Rolin/Rollen/Rowland, Tarwater Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/nhB.2ACI/1293 Message Board Post: According to TN Marriages database Sarah Rolin married Jacob Tarwater in Jefferson County in January 1797. We know they ended up in Ray County Missouri and have what we need of their family from that point. Accepted family tradition is that Sarah/Sallie was a sister of Dowdle Rowland (spelled Rollen in Lee County, VA, records of 1803-1810 and who also ended up in Ray County, MO). Dowdle always listed his place of birth as 1780 in NC in Bible and census records - but much of East TN was part of NC in 1780. We have failed totally to place either of these people before these records or to prove a parent to either. Has anyone come across similar names in county research that might give documentation to their family connection or their parentage? Any suggestions for finding information if I actually make a trip to TN? Any help would be appreciated.
Hello... I was wondering if anyone had access to the 1860 Jefferson Co., TN census or index and could do a lookup? I have the page photocopied of my ancester in this census; however, when I did the copy, it was years ago before I knew the importance of tracing the neighbors and only have what was listed on that page. I was wondering if someone could please list the 15 households before and the 15 households after "H. Collet"? Thanks a lot! Sincerely, Barry Collett Barry O. My husband's Hammons/Hammonds is Elizabeth. She was born about 1780-1790, died 1840-1846 in IL or MO, and married David Elmore Feb 1805 in Jefferson Co, TN. She had a sister Abigail who married ---- Grace. Abigail died 1847 in MO. I have strong suspicions that they were the daughters of Moses Hammond Sr and Abigail. Does anyone have information to share?
