1850 US census, Dist 10, Hawkins Co., TN., M432-882, page 385, dwell/fam 24/24: NOTE: I understand the area of Dist 10 included Rogersville, TN. Reese(?), John M., male, age 43, Saddler, b. TN. -------, Artisles(?), female, age 41, b. TN. -------, Ann, female, age 17, b. TN. -------, Mary, female, age 16, b. TN. -------, James, male, age 10, b. TN. -------, Daniel, male, age 26, carpenter, b. TN. The surname is not very clear in the census record.. I have reason to think this is actually the family of my James Franklin Reeves, b. March 5, 1841 in Russellville, Jefferson, TN. He was a Saddler Sergeant in the 9th TN Cavalry during the civil war and married Elizabeth Caroline Abshire. They came to live in Texas & Oklahoma. Records I have found tend to indicate that James' parents were John Reeves & Artie (Artimesa?) Broyles who were apparently married May 19, 1831 in Greene Co., TN. and who lived in (perhaps Greene) Jefferson & Hawkins Counties. Does anyone recognize this family who can add further info (pro or con) about them? Seeking copy of the following information: 1846 Jefferson County TN, Book 1, page 90 (Estate Settlement) Harvey RIGGS as Executor of Estate of Samuel RIGGS [1760--1846] and Clisby RIGGS. Witnessed by John MORRIS, Edward RIGGS, and Russell RIGGS. Does anyone on these lists have access to Jefferson County, Tennessee Book 1, page 96 in the year 1846 (Estate Settlements) to give complete text of the Settlement of the Estate of Samuel RIGGS (property in Jefferson Co, TN and Hawkins Co, TN}? If so please send it to the RIGGS and Jefferson County Rootsweb forums and/or to me. Thanks to anyone who may be able to help with this request. Bobby G. Carwile

While it doesn't note a link to your George, according to the book People and Places of Jefferson County by Muncy: John Webb received a land grant from North Carolina for 550 acres on the south side of Indian Creek. He is thought to be the first white man to permanently settle "in the land of chestnuts". Area later known as Chestnut Hill and is south of the French Broad River. John along with his son Jess, a Methodist Minister, considered themselves Indian Missionaries. ----- Original Message ----- From: <connie.ruffner@edi.gatech.edu> To: <TNJEFFER-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, November 08, 2003 12:33 PM Subject: [TNJefferson] William Webb of Dandridge, Jefferson Co > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Surnames: Webb > Classification: Query > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/nhB.2ACI/1305 > > Message Board Post: > > Hello. Captain Edward RIGGS died in Jefferson County, Tennessee in Dec 1819 and is buried somewhere close to Morristown in Hamblen County. His son Samuel is in an unmarked grave close to RIGGS Cemetery North East of Morristown; the RIGGS Cemetery has the remains of Samuel's son Jesse and Jessee's wife and daughter. This Jesse is said to have served in the War of 1812............His grave beside his wife is unmarked. It would be nice if the RIGGS descendants of OLD Captain Edward RIGGS [1720--1819] and his son Samuel RIGGS [1760--1846] and Sams son Jesse RIGGS got memorial markers and placed all of them side by side in this ABANDONED and grown over RIGGS Cemetery. Historical records state that Jesse is buried beside his wife in an unmarked grave and his father Samuel is buried in an unmarked grave on an adjacent farm. Jesse could be placed by his wifes stone and then his father Samuel and then Samuel's father Captain Edward RIGGS. The names of Captain Edward RIGGS children and the names of Samuels children could be enscribed on the back of each of their stones with a note explaining "Exact burial location unknown" on the back of each. Captain Edward RIGGS [1720--1819] Revolutionary War Service is well researched and in Historical Records and his son Samuel made two applications for Pension for his service in the Rev War. One in 1832 as an enlisted man and one in 1845 as an OFFICER; as a Lieutenant. I saw somewhere that Jesse RIGGS served in the company of Captain Clisby RIGGS in the War of 1812........It should be recorded somewhere. NOTE: There were several Jesse RIGGS who served in War of 1812 from East Tennessee. How is all this for a suggestion. Would make a beautiful ceremony to place a stone for a Father and son who both served in the Revolutionary War and one for an 1812 veteran at the same time. WISHFUL THINKING..... Bobby G. Carwile

My ancestor lived in Causwell Co from 1787 until about 1793. He had relatives in Green County. I presume that is one reason he remained there for the 6 years. Could you please let me know who to email or write to answer my question. Thanks so very much for your help!!
In the book, Marriages of Jefferson County, Tennessee, 1792-1836, compiled by Edythe Rucker Whitley, I found Elizabeth Neal married Thomas Elmore Dec. 22, 1822. William Cox married C. Austen June 30, 1814. These people are of the right time period for your William and Elizabeth, so I thought I would let you know what I found. They might be the ones you are looking for, although they weren't marrying each other at this time. I hope this helps.

In fact James and Martha lived on the Pollard homeplace and was supposed to still be in the White family about 20 - 30 years ago. I don't know that for a fact. I have not been able to look up land records.
