    3. Hi, I would like to submit my names to the list to see if anyone has any information about the following names that appear in the 1850 census for Jefferson County, Tennessee: Alexander Williams (b. ~ 1807) married to Hanah (b. ~ 1820) children: Nancy (b. ~1834), George (b. ~ 1836), Ezekiel (b. ~ 1838), Mary C (b. ~ 1840), Wyley (b. ~ 1842), Catharine E (b. ~ 1844), William (b. ~ 1846), Josiah (b. ~ 1849), and later from the 1860 census: Gid (m) (b. ~ 1851), A (f) (b. ~ 1855). I haven't been able to determine when or where Alexander married Hanah or who their parents were. Though, it is a possibility that Alexander's father was named Ezekiel and married to Polly Mcdonald. Thanks in advance for any help, John Williams

    1. [TNJefferson] Boultons (and various spellings)
    2. Virginia S. Brizendine
    3. Benjamin and Elocky Snead left Jefferson County TN about 1853 for Gentry County MO (northwest corner of MO near the Iowa border). Family tradition says that a Boulton (Bolten, Bolden, etc.) family came with them. At least we know that Bathiah Boulton married Benjamin "Frank" Snead about 1857 in Missouri and that her sister, Nancy, had married Benjamin Frank's brother, Josiah (Joe) Snead in Tennessee about 1848. The only other clue on the Boulton/Bolden family can be found in the 1870 Gentry County Census, Howard Township #74-77 where Sarah Boulton, age 80, born SC, was enumerated with Benjamin Frank and Bathiah. Bathiah was 36 at the time, so this could have been her mother. This family has been a total dead end for me. Would also love to hear from other researchers. 2. My challenge to the List Members is the following family which is my brick wall. ANY information would be appreciated. Searching for information on Luther Herman McGhee, born 1907. His parents were Frank W. McGhee and Maggie Maples. Luther was married for a short time in the late 1920's to Lucile Rutherford. They divorced. Luther may have had a sister by the name of Jessie (McGhee) Llewelyn (not sure). Frank and Luther worked at the Knoxville Table and Chair Company in the late 1920's. In 1949 Frank and Maggie lived on Brown Ave. Luther may have lived in Strawberry Plains in the 1970's, but I'm not sure about that. Does anyone on the list recognize this family? If so, please contact me. Thank you, ...Marjorie

    2. Jessie, There were approximately 35,000 men from East Tennessee who fought for the Union during the Civil War. There is a book in the State archives in Nashville that lists all the military organizations and the men in them. The name of the book is " Report of the Adjutant General of the State of Tennessee of the Military Forces of the State from 1861 to 1865". It was printed for the State in Nashville, Tennessee by B.C. Mercer who was printer to the state in 1866. 3. Hello. I am researching the Civil War regiment 4th Tennessee Cavalry (Union), and am slowly adding regiments to my website. Today I completed transcribing Company G, and in that company there were a great many men from Jefferson County. The roster is at http://users.rootsweb.com/~tn4cav/roster4g.html This company also includes information about pension applications. (I will eventually be adding this pension data for all the companies). I have not posted the pension application numbers, but I do have that information, and would be happy to share it with anyone who wants it - just e-mail me at [email protected] Any additional information about these Jefferson Co men would be appreciated. As was usually the case, there are several groups of siblings or cousins, and I also noted when looking at the 1850 and 1860 census records that many of these families lived near each other. Thanks Jessie Blalock http://users.rootsweb.com/~tn4cav/index.html
