    1. Spencer HUNT
    2. Randy Hunt
    3. I am trying to prove or disprove a link from my great-grandfather, Richard HUNT, to the Spencer HUNT (b. around 1780s) recorded in the Franklin Co, TN 1850 census. Felicia's files(from the HUNT-L list) state that this Spencer is Spencer Trent HUNT, born in Halifax Co, VA in 1788 to James HUNT and Rhoda NUNNELEE. I have found an abstract of Rhoda's application for a Rev. war pension that confirms the info on Spencer T. James and Rhoda moved their family to Henry Co, VA sometime in the 1790s. Spencer T. HUNT can be found in Hickman Co, TN in 1820; Dickson Co, TN and Humphreys Co, TN in the 30s and 40s. There is an interesting letter from a William TURNER to his son Fennel TURNER that mentions Spencer T. Hunt. William TURNER's grandmother was Spencer's sister. She is referred to as Fanny in the letter and she was married to Allen PARRISH. There is a Frankey listed with Spencer and his siblings in Rhoda's rev war pension app. I found the marriage of Frances Hunt and Allen PARRISH in Henry Co, VA marriages. These two things put a positive id to the Spencer T. in TN as the son of James and Rhoda. Here is the mystery: There is a lot of information on Spencer in TN. There is an account of a murder that some people thought Spencer had something to do with. He was supposed to be very distraught about the suspicion. He is said to have died. There is a will proved (but disputed by his wife Mary). His wife got married again. So... Spencer T. HUNT disappears from Dickson, Co TN area between 1840 and 1850. Maybe dead, maybe not. His will left money to the schools of Dickson and Humphreys counties and a monument (shaft) was put up in his honor but they didn't know where his grave was so they put it into a cemetery in town. Then it went out by the highway. So... a Spencer HUNT around the same age shows up in the 1850 Franklin Co, TN census. I cannot find another Spencer Hunt of his age anywhere in the surrounding states. Also in that same census is another younger Spencer HUNT b. in 1810. Where did this older Spencer come from? Is it really Spencer Trent? It could very well be that he left the area because of the suspicion. He may have had another family in the Franklin Co. area in his past that he went back to. Is anybody related to these families listed in the Franklin censuses? Does anyone on these county lists have information that would provide clues for me? 1850 Spencer Hunt 70 Sarah Hunt 55 David Hunt 18 William Hunt 16 Mary Hunt 14 Richard Hunt 12 Elizabeth Hunt 10 Spencer Hunt 40 Jamima 25 James 4 Charlotte 2 Robert C. 6mo Mariam Whilhite 19 1860 David Hunt 27 Lucinda 28 (maybe a CROWDER) Mary L. 9 Antony 7 (Anthony) Catherine 5 E.V. 1 (listed as Virginia in 1870) ?
