Good morning, It is good to communicate with someone who is related to the Brake's.Of course,I am interested in all of the surnames I posted, but the especially the Brake, because it is a very rare surname. I have only now after 6 months of searching found some clues as to who were the parents of Julia Alice Brake who married Alvah Clemons Daniel. And he has proved to be a little difficult also. I had the good fortune to copy the family info out of Julia's Bible many years ago. It has since disappeared. It may have ended up in an antique's store somewhere in West Tennessee. No one really knows what happened to this Bible. It was rather small--maybe 6"x 9" and about 3-4" thick. It was hard bound and the cover was brown with raised lettering. It contained information relating to the birth of 7 children. The only information it contained about Julia and Alvah is as follows: Alvah Clemons Daniel---B. February 18,1858 and D.January 21,1928 Julia Alice Brake----------B. February 02,1866 and no death date was listed, because, I suppose,no one felt they should write in her Bible. The following is the sum total of info I have found on the Brake family: http://www.eg.bucknell.edu/~hyde/brake/ This ia a website devoted to the Brake family. Last time I checked, there was no info available on the Humphreys Co. Brake's. But it does have some great info on the heritage and history of the family. It has many interesting photos also. 1850 Humphreys County Census 450 Brake, Amos 43 m 1 Picty 37 f John 25 m 1 Sarah 20 f Thomas 11 m Henry 9 m Elizabeth 5 f 1860 Humphreys County Census Index Rushing #1)A.J.--Caledonia--Edney--Josephine--Margaret--Mary Brake #4)John--Lewis--Londa--Mason--Rileigh--Sarah--William Rushing #8)Jenevia--Julia A.--Nancy J.--Richard C.--William Daniel #16)Samuel #20)Joseph--Mary--William #22)D.C.--David--George--James--Jemima--Rebecca--William--(Alvah/Elvah?) #70)David--Elizabeth--George--Hiram--Jane--John--Mary--Minnie--Selena #71)Charles--Jane--Philander Brake #71)Catherine--Elisha--Martha--Nancy--Sarah Rushing#72)Daniel--Elizabeth--Semantha--William #74)Ann #98)David P.--Eliza--Elizabeth J.--George--James--Jones--Nancy H.--William R. Of the 2 Brake households listed in 1860 there are only 2 names that were carried over from the 1850 Census.John and Sarah. Is it possible that they were married and living with his family in 1850 and subsequently had Julia after the 1860 Census was long past ?( Household # 4) D.C. and Jemima Daniel are my best bet as the parents of Alvah Daniel. He should have been listed in the 1860 census if I had his birth date correct. I added the parenthectical Alvah/Elvah at the end because I did a search on the LDS family search site and the info I returned offered a female Elvah J. born in 1867 to D.C. and Jimima Daniel in Humphreys Co,Tenn. It is a little maddening sometimes !! Did Alvah have a sister named Elvah ? Is it a misprint ? When was he born if not on the date listed in the family Bible ? Could it be that these are not his parents and he is listed on the 1860 Census in some other county,or state ? Notice the 2 listings for household #71.Was this an error or were there Daniel and Brake families under one roof ? Moving on to brighter subjects,I have a great deal of info on the Cooley family of Humphreys County. The Patriarch was James Cooley who was my gggg-grandfather. I am commucating with several Cooley descendants at this time and have corresponded with Betty Harwood in the past who is also a Cooley descendant. I have not been able to get any e-mail thru to her lately, tho. My Fortner line is easy---my mother's 1st cousin Betsy Carter, daughter of Cora Daniel and Will? Carter, married Vester Fortner and they had 3 daughters. Margie, the oldest, Judy, and Laura who is my age. I have not seen any of them in recent years except for Betsy. David if you would like,I can send you some files to your private e-mail. I would love to post some old family photos on the Humphreys County Page. Teresa Sue Beech
