Does anyone have information of the following: In 1842 Dr. Frederick Knapp of New Orleans purchased 20,000 acres in McEwen to establish a sheep ranch. In 1845, he donated part of this land to Bishop Miles (Bishop of Nashville) and advertised in the 1845 Catholic Almanac - that land was available on the Stage Road from Nashville to Memphis. Also, has anyone seen a newspaper article from the 1860's that states 5 families owned most of the land at McEwen - SHEEHAN, WALSH, BURCHIEL, O'GRADY, & HALPIN. This information was passed on to me and is not documented. Thanks, Leslie USLKLH@aol.com Looking for BURCHIEL/BURCHELL/BURCHILL & MCGUIRE
