Hi Everyone, I'm brand new to this list and seeking answers on research in this county. The Handy Book says this is a burnt-records county. <sigh> I discovered recently that some NICHOLASes that I'm looking for lived for a time in Humphreys County. They were Ebemelech (aka Elimelech, Elimelitch) NICHOLAS and his son Jourdan NICHOLAS. They lived there from sometime between 1810 and 1840. Before that, Ebemelech was in Northampton County, North Carolina. His son Jourdan NICHOLAS later settled in Hickman County, Kentucky. There was also another NICHOLAS on the census in Humphreys County named Noah, but I don't know if he is related for sure or not. On Ancestry, I also recently found some marriages for Jourdan and Ebemelech in 1816, but in Davidson County. I don't know enough about migration paths or where the counties are located (back to the maps for me) to understand why they would have married in Davidson County. Would appreciate research suggestions and advice. Thanks! Michele
