OK, folks, our Danville Crossing Homecoming plans are moving right along, and it is only a little over 3 months away, so let's get out the calendar, mark the dates and get reservations in and plan on making this year's as good as last year's, and bigger! The Danville Crossing Homecoming, which was so successful and well-recieved last year will be gathering again June 22-24 at Paris Landing, Buchanan TN. For you " newbies" it is a time when as many of us online researchers in that part of TN as can, gather to search the area, share information, have speakers who help us to do a better job of our family histories, play games, and get to know one another Registration for this is $10 for the 3 day event. That includes a spouse or other guest. On Friday night, ( June 23 rd), there will be a catfish supper and few awards will be given out at that time. For you who don't know, that part of the country takes a lot of pride in their catfish, and it IS good! The dinner is $13.50 each person over the age of 3 ( under 3 eat free). It includes catfish, fried okra, coleslaw, potato salad, hushpuppies, lemon pie, coffee and tea. The Paris Landing Lodge has rooms available still, at $64/night.( call 1-800-250-8614) We need 4 more of you to stay there, in order to get one of the meeting rooms for free. There are also camping facilities at Paris landing for you more rustic folks! There is a Best Western and a Super 8 in Paris, and some other motels in the vicinity. We will be setting up a sign-in place in one of the downstairs meeting rooms of the Paris landing Lodge, for any time after one p.m. on Thursday, June 22nd. There will be county information there at the time, and a schedule of the events of the Homecoming. We will be telling you about some of it as the time nears and plans gel. We are in touch with the local Genealogical groups and Libraries in the area who will be prepared to help us out while we peruse their courthouses and libraries and so we don't wander around like one more lost tribe of Israel looking for those old cemeteries! Some of them may be setting up tables to enroll whoever wants to join the County Genealogical Societies, and to sell books and items pertaining to the area. Plans are underway for educational and entertaining programs in the evenings.
