Folks, The DC Homecoming for counties Stewart, Houston, Humphrey, Dickson, Henry, Benton is June 22-24 at Paris Landing, and we are hoping many of you attend! Meet new friends and old cousins, share information, use as a base for heading out to the courthouses and cemeteries yourself! Someone will be in the lobby at lodge beginning at 9:00 a.m with packets and registration materials. After that: Arrive at the meeting room Thursday beginning at 1:00 p.m. to have your surnames and email addy placed on t-shirts, register and receive county packets. 1:30 p.m. Brief "getting to know you" session and activity. 2:00 through 5:00 p.m. meeting room open to sharing of genealogical books and materials. Doorprize drawings at 2:00 p.m. Supper on your own, or grab a new cousin! 6:00 p.m. until whenever- Gather in the meeting room for those who wish to hear workshop on "Appalachian Folklore" with Jan Philpot (pre-signups necessary due to limited space) 8:00 Weinie and marshmellow park over in the campground. Meet in the front lobby, bring your weinies and marshmellows and prepare to hike to it. FRIDAY June 23 7:30 brief meeting so folks can go to courthouses and libraries. 8:00 a. m. through 5:00 p.m. meeting room open to sharing of genealogical books and materials. Folks may also use this day to hit the courthouses and libraries. Doorprize drawings at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. 10:00 STRETCH time. Those who wish, meet with jan in the front lobby and we will take a hike around the park! 10:00-11:00 Ranger Jimmy Jobe will speak on Civil War in DC area. (pre-signups necessary due to limited space!) Supper on your own or grab a new cousin! 6:00 p.m. "Surviving Like a Pioneer" workshop available with M.T. in the meeting room (pre-signups necessary due to limited space). 8:00 p.m. Gather in the meeting room for those who wish to enjoy an Appalachian storytelling session with Mattie Childers. (pre-signups necessary due to limited space). We will stay as long as Mattie will spin tales! SATURDAY June 24 8:00 a.m. Brief meeting so that folks can get out to libraries, cemeteries, etc. Silent Auction begins. 8:30 a.m. "Old Time Wood Crafts" with Harry Buchanan. (pre-signups necessary due to limited space). 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Booksellers available, genealogy society tables, library displays etc. available in meeting room. 5:00 p.m. Workshop session in meeting room "So You Want to be a Genealogy Listowner? Tips for How to Make it Successful" (pre-signups necessary due to limited space) with Jan Philpot. 6:00 p.m.?? Main Meeting and banquet. (supper must be paid in advance- reservations have to be made and paid for by June 15th , postmarked the 12th or before, and mailed to out PO Box). Drawings, awards, entertainment. Silent auction winners announced (pick up your items after the dinner in the meeting room). SUNDAY June 25 Sunrise service at lake for those still around. Breakfast together in lodge for the same.
