    1. Walsh/Hanlon
    2. Hello Listers, I posted the following to the Davidson County, TN list. It was suggested that I might try looking in Humphreys County as there were/are many Walshes of Irish descent in the county, especially in McEwen. If anyone has any info or can lead me in I new direction, I would be grateful to hear from you. My ggg-grandfather was Redmond Hanlon (b.c. 1800) married to Honora O'Donnell (b.c. 1815). They are said to be from County Galway or County Mayo, Ireland. Redmond and Honora first settled in Nashville, Tennessee after they immigrated to the US in 1853 (Redmond may have come earlier) through the port of New Orleans. Family oral history has them running a boarding house for railroad workers in or around Nashville. They moved on to Shieldsville, Rice County, Minnesota around 1861. Rice County is in southeastern Minnesota. Their children were: Patrick b.c. 1835 in Ireland, Winifred b.c. 1837 in Ireland, (m. Michael Mahoney April 1856 in Nashville) Mary b.c. 1842 in Ireland, Ellen b.c. 1844 in Ireland, John b.c. 1845 in Ireland, Thomas b.c. 1848 in Ireland, Catherine b.c. 1850 in Ireland, Margaret b. 1857 in Tennessee. Ellen Hanlon (probably known as Nell) married John Walsh and stayed in Tennessee. Thomas Hanlon is said to have moved back to Tennessee some time after 1865. The Metro Archives of Davidson County could not locate a marriage record for Ellen Hanlon and John Walsh. Variations of Ellen's maiden name are Hanley, Handly, Hanlin. I am looking for anyone that may have a connection to Ellen Hanlon Walsh or her brother Thomas Hanlon. Thanks in advance, Betty Couette, St. Paul, MN
