Hello! I just finished adding the names for the J. Warren Cemetery in Humphreys County. There are many names listed and you might want to take a look! Happy Hunting! Alisa
As you know the Danville Crossing Reunion, encompassing your area is coming up. That reunion is a big plus in terms of making contacts, but it also is a good way to find new resource material. We will be in touch with all of the major publishers that have books on this area, but we do NOT want to miss any of those folks out there who have written and published books on their own. PLEASE if you are one of these authors, or if you know of them, have them get in touch soon at TCHOSKI@aol.com We do NOT accept any commission from sales of books, and this is simply a good way for them to sell their books at the same time researchers are able to find materials all in one place at one time. In other words, just a super opportunity for both researchers and authors. Timothy C. Hoskins Free Leonard Peltier !!!!!!!!!!! I will send this again to answer those of you who have sent requests today... Thanks! Alisa I forgot to include this.... Humphreys County Historical Society, c/o Mrs. John Whitfield 107 Carroll Avenue, Waverly, TN 37185 Thanks!
Jan, you say things so beautifully. You made me cry! And THIS is why we have to pull it together and make in an annual thing, so it will be something for our grandkids to sit together and remember how their Nanas and " Aunt Cher" help start it all! Cacky
>Does anyone know when the book on the History of Huston County is going to be ready? Or the book of Cemeteries in Houston County? Sue Crawford
I forgot to include this.... Humphreys County Historical Society, c/o Mrs. John Whitfield 107 Carroll Avenue, Waverly, TN 37185 Thanks!
There's a new website for Humphreys County, Tn -- www.HumphreysCo.net -- and while they don't have a lot of information yet, they *do* offer to add links to other Humphreys County related websites. There's even a special section for genealogy. Deborah
Hello Everyone! I don't usually talk about things for sale...however, this is pretty exciting news and I wanted to share it. The Humpreys County Historical Society has decided to reprint the first volume of the Heritage Series. They are going to reprint 300 copies and will presell them before they go to print. If you are interested, please send a note to Margaret Whitfield and she will put your name on a list and notify you with the particulars and when to send the money. I have this book and it is well worth the effort and money....many of you may have biographies of your ancestors in it. ALSO I have gotten permission to start transcribing and listing the cemeteries so soon you will see more information showing up on the cemetery page. Happy Hunting! Alisa
THE INFLATION CALCULATOR http://www.westegg.com/inflation/ If you are ever reading a will of your ancestor and want to know how much the monetary amounts mean in today's terms, then go to the web site above and find the Inflation Calculator. This Calculator was posted to the web by Morgan Friedman and covers values from 1800 to 1998. I found it quite interesting and fun! You can also put in an amount in today's terms and figure out what value it would have been in 1820 or any other year. Example: If your ancestor left an inheritance of $500.00 in 1850, that amount would be worth $9569.74 today.

Anyone interested in genealogy and history in Western Tennessee is welcome, particularly the counties of Benton, Dickson, Henry, Houston, Humphreys, & Stewart. There will be a lot of fun and a banquet I will tell you about later, and cousins by the dozens doing research together in the libraries and courthouses of the area. It will be a chance to compare and share your information, make new friends and get reacquainted with old, and put faces with the people you have " met" online. Make your plans to come! Get the reservations in now. Cacky --part1_a9.25ee8e4.25eeb170_boundary--
In the Humphreys County Heritage Book it says that these Revolutionary Veterans lived in Humphreys County .Benjamin Brevard, Robert Brown, Henry Burton, David Childers, James Cooley (Coleu), Abraham Davidson, George Davidson, Samuel Dunlap, Alexander Anderson, William Gibson, Isaac Hale, James Hemilton, Thomas Hamilton, Bailey Hooper, Stephan Jackson, Moses Hitchcock, Albsalom Knight, Tommy Lankford, Thomas McGee, John Sarrett, Simon Steptoe. John Swindle, Josiah Puckett, Samuel Wadkins, Christopher Waggoner, and Sylvestor Adams. My ancestor was Stephen Jackson and I really don't think he was ever in Tennessee. He is on the 1800 census in Anson County NC . I think it was his son Able who came into Stewart County before 1813 and not Stephen. If anyone is doing John Sarrett genealogy -- I found a note that John Jackson and a Sarrett where living on the land that became Camden. Would be interested in hearing more about him.
