    3. I just have a feeling there is probably a connection between your Blackwells & Bakers to mine. I'm on the road right now; so I'm away from my paperwork. You might take a look at my website & see if any of the names jump out at you: www.uftree.com/UFT/WebPages/anthonymayberry/MAYBERRY/ I do have two Nancy Blackwell's. Humphries & Hickman Counties border each other. And I know some of my Blackwells were in Humphries County. 1. Announce: First Families of Tennessee book and ETHS Genealogy Conference
    2. East Tennessee Historical Society
    3. East Tennessee Historical Society Hosts Genealogy Conference and Family Reunion Celebration The sons and daughters of Tennessee's pioneer founders are heading home this Memorial Day weekend. The East Tennessee Historical Society (ETHS) is hosting a weekend-long genealogy conference and family history fair, May 26-28, in Knoxville, Tennessee. A highlight of the conference will be a "family reunion" of members of the society's family heritage project, First Families of Tennessee (FFT)the debut of a new First Families of Tennessee book. Guests attending the conference will face a wide variety of options and activities, including a two-day genealogy conference featuring national and regional experts, a family history fair and street party in downtown Knoxville, motorcoach tours of historic East Tennessee sites, and a "family reunion" dinner at the home of Tennessee's first governor, John Sevier. The genealogy conference, held at Knoxville's Hilton Hotel, May 26-27, will examine Southeastern "roots and routes" - focusing on our ancestors and their migrations into and out of East Tennessee. Guest speakers will discuss a variety of topics including Scots-Irish research, Cherokee genealogy, Tennessee land records, Tennesseans in the California gold rush, frontier religion, and more. Experts will also discuss research topics in states associated with Tennessee's earliest residents, including Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Virginia. Descendants of Tennessee's first families will celebrate the publication of the East Tennessee Historical Society's newest book, First Families of Tennessee: A Register of Early Settlers and Their Descendants. The book, a tribute to the ancestors enrolled in the FFT project, will include names and vital stats of the more than 2,000 ancestors enrolled in the project, along with a registry of FFT members. The book will be unveiled in a special ceremony and will be available for purchase at the history conference. Guest speakers will include Dr. George K. Schweitzer, Charles Sherrill of the Tennessee State Library and Archives, Russell Baker, Robert Davis, historian Walter Durham, and other experts on a variety of genealogical and historical topics. In addition to the multi-track genealogy conference, ETHS will host a genealogy and family history fair featuring mini-workshops for beginners, vendor displays, tours of local historic sites, carriage and trolley rides in downtown Knoxville, and living history demonstrations. The fair will also include a downtown street party outside the historical society's headquarters with live music, dramatic performances, historic reenactments, children's activities and more. While the theme of the weekend will be built around a family reunion of First Families of Tennessee members, attendance at all the events is open to anyone with an interest in history and genealogy. The First Families of Tennessee was founded by the East Tennessee Historical Society in 1993 to honor the state's early residents and to recognize their descendants. The program is open to those who can prove descent from a person living in any part of Tennessee by 1796. Housed in Knoxville's Calvin M. McClung Historical Collection, the First Families of Tennessee files provide a one-of-a-kind resource for historical and genealogical research. For additional information about ETHS, the First Families of Tennessee project, or the upcoming genealogy conference and First Families of Tennessee reunion, visit the historical society's website at www.east-tennessee-history.org # # #

    2. I am now being told by "the legal ones", that the formerly-referred-to $10 is not a "registration fee", but dues to Danville Crossing, to comply with some Tennessee Statute. I don't see the difference, but am told there IS one! ( boy, the things you learn when not trying to!) Cacky

    1. (no subject)
    2. OK, folks, our Danville Crossing Homecoming plans are moving right along, and it is only a little over 3 months away, so let's get out the calendar, mark the dates and get reservations in and plan on making this year's as good as last year's, and bigger! The Danville Crossing Homecoming, which was so successful and well-recieved last year will be gathering again June 22-24 at Paris Landing, Buchanan TN. For you " newbies" it is a time when as many of us online researchers in that part of TN as can, gather to search the area, share information, have speakers who help us to do a better job of our family histories, play games, and get to know one another Registration for this is $10 for the 3 day event. That includes a spouse or other guest. On Friday night, ( June 23 rd), there will be a catfish supper and few awards will be given out at that time. For you who don't know, that part of the country takes a lot of pride in their catfish, and it IS good! The dinner is $13.50 each person over the age of 3 ( under 3 eat free). It includes catfish, fried okra, coleslaw, potato salad, hushpuppies, lemon pie, coffee and tea. You can start sending in your checks for the Homecoming and the dinner to: Danville Crossing Homecoming 2000 P O Box 47047 Jacksonville, FL 32247-7047 Make the checks out to Danville Crossing Homecoming 2000. Please copy and print this form, and send it with your check: _____________________________________________________________________ Name___________________________________ e-mail address____________________________ address_______________________________________________________________ City__________________________ State_________zipcode____________________ Phone number ( _____)__________________________ Researching in ( counties)________________________________________________ Surnames_____________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ Registering for _________ genealogists at $10 each and _______ guests (free) Friday night Dinner, ______________people ( same price for children over 3 and adults) @ $13.50 each.) ______________________________________________________________________ Everyone needs to be making accommodation arrangements now, so that no one finds he wants to come and all the area motels and the lodge are full! The Paris Landing Lodge has rooms available still, at $64/night.( call 1-800-250-8614) We need 4 more of you to stay there, in order to get one of the meeting rooms for free. There are also camping facilities at Paris landing for you more rustic folks! There is a Best Western and a Super 8 in Paris, and some other motels in the vicinity. We will be setting up a sign-in place in one of the downstairs meeting rooms of the Paris landing Lodge, for any time after one p.m. on Thursday, June 22nd. There will be county information there at the time, and a schedule of the events of the Homecoming. We will be telling you about some of it as the time nears and plans gel. We are in touch with the local Genealogical groups and Libraries in the area who will be prepared to help us out while we peruse their courthouses and libraries and so we don't wander around like one more lost tribe of Israel looking for those old cemeteries! Some of them may be setting up tables to enroll whoever wants to join the County Genealogical Societies, and to sell books and items pertaining to the area. Plans are underway for educational and entertaining programs in the evenings. Let's start getting signed up so we know how many there will be of us, and can make the rest of the plans for one REALLY GOOD TIME! Cacky
