    3. I am looking for information on Richard Berry ADAMS who was born about 1830 in TN. I recently saw a reference to Berry and Elizabeth ADAMS in Humpries County and was hoping there was a connection. Richard possibly had a brother, Joseph Harold, also born in TN. 1. civil war names
    2. Hello cousins: Here is a new site from the national parks service that intends to list the name of every soldier who served in the civil war. They have just initiated the site, so only a few states are listed, but TN is on the list. I found the name of my ancestor Namon GIBBONS from Humphreys Co. TN. Since he died abt 1871, I had not been able to find him in civil war searches prior to the listing of this site. Having found him and his brother George Gibbons, both in Co. A, 10th (DeMoss's) Tenn Cavalry (confederate), does anyone have info or a website with information about this unit? here is the webpage address: http://www.itd.nps.gov/cwss/soldiers.htm Dennis West in Knoxville, TN -------------------------------- End of TNHUMPHR-D Digest V00 Issue #80 ************************************** From root@lists6.rootsweb.com Tue Aug 1 18:59:50 2000 Return-Path: <root@lists6.rootsweb.com> Received: from lists6.rootsweb.com (lists6.rootsweb.com [63.92.80.125]) by listsearches.rootsweb.com (8.10.1/8.10.1) with ESMTP id e721xow13732 for <indexer@listsearches.rootsweb.com>; Tue, 1 Aug 2000 18:59:50 -0700 Received: (from root@localhost) by lists6.rootsweb.com (8.10.1/8.10.1) id e721xpe19105 for indexer@listsearches.rootsweb.com; Tue, 1 Aug 2000 18:59:51 -0700 Date: Tue, 1 Aug 2000 18:59:51 -0700 Message-Id: <200008020159.e721xpe19105@lists6.rootsweb.com> From: TNHUMPHR-D-request@rootsweb.com Subject: TNHUMPHR-D Digest V00 #80 X-Loop: TNHUMPHR-D@rootsweb.com X-Mailing-List: <TNHUMPHR-D@rootsweb.com> archive/volume00/80 Precedence: list MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: multipart/digest; boundary="----------------------------" To: TNHUMPHR-D@rootsweb.com Reply-To: TNHUMPHR-L@rootsweb.com ------------------------------ Content-Type: text/plain TNHUMPHR-D Digest Volume 00 : Issue 80 Today's Topics: #1 civil war names [dwest3@utk.edu] Administrivia: To unsubscribe from TNHUMPHR-D, send a message to TNHUMPHR-D-request@rootsweb.com that contains in the body of the message the command unsubscribe and no other text. Just wanted to remind/inform everyone that the Historical Society is working on a reprint of the first volume of the Humphreys County Heritage Books. This book was first printed in 1979 and it is one of my most treasured possessions...especially if you knew what I paid for it. The reprint price is much less!! :) The Historical Society must have orders for 200 copies before the printer will print it. So, if you have been waiting to order, please write to Margaret Whitfield and order your copy. Please note, I have no hidden reason for recommending this book other than I think it is wonderful and I know you will enjoy owning it if you have Humphreys County roots, as I do. It was sooo exciting to read about my Horners and McKeels! There are photos, too so don't miss out. Happy Weekend! Alisa PS: Please pass the word! Thanks! 3. Hi Harold and all, Oh, I don't think Mary was really "serious" about being disappointed in those of us who went to the reunion! I think that was just her way of reminding us that we haven't shared with the rest of the list what a great time we had! I won't repeat all that Linda said as she said it so well! However, I do want to thank Linda, Jan, Tim, and Cacky for all of their hard work. I wasn't in the least bit disappointed and I drove from TX to be there! Everyone was so friendly and it was just as if I'd known them for years. Mattie and J. C. were there too and it was great getting to know them----but missed getting to talk to Lee although she was there. I know Cacky was thrilled not to have to cart T-shirts back home and we were all tickled to get them! The one person I missed meeting the most was Cher, of course----but I expect to meet her before too long! Oh, before I sign off, Welcome to the co-list owner----Tim. I'm sure he will do a terrific job just as he has been doing. He was a delight to meet and just as nice as I thought he would be. Of course Jan was Jan and just as I pictured her to be----very articulate and fun to be around. J. C. was not as I pictured her AT ALL-----sorry J. C. I thought you'd be taller <LOLOLOL>! It was great meeting you and to share our name! Linda and Cacky were everywhere and so helpful to everyone that I know all of you are jealous if you could not be there! That's ok though as this reunion isn't likely to end any time soon! Met lots of folks from TX there. One last word to Tim----watch yourself going through Arkansas! I, for one committee member, was exhausted after 6 weeks of final preparations and had to come right home to finish preparations for a family reunion the following weekend. Had to rest a little. DCH was grand. I think that I speak for all who attended in saying that everyone had a good time. There were folks from TN, KY, AR, MS, OH, and as far away as Washington State.....to name a few. The attendance was about 60 which was a little down from the previous year....but the rest of us made up for those absent!!! There was laughing...story telling....kidding....visiting....exchanging information....making new friends.....renewing old friendships that were started last year.....it was like a great big family reunion. One first time attendee went away saying that she felt like she was leaving family! What a testimony! This year's workshops were a terrific addition....jan had EVERYONE acting really crazy with her Appalachian storytelling....Ranger Jobe came from Ft. Donelson and gave us alot of information on the battles of Ft. Henry, Ft. Donelson, Dover, and Johnsonville. He answered questions as long as they were asked.....M.T. talked to us about surviving in the 'old days'.....Mr. Buchanan taught us how log cabins were built and brought examples of some of the old tools.....Mattie Childers entertained us royally with her Appalachian stories...then jan finished up with a workshop for prospective list owners... Oh the food....that's another story....on Saturday night for the banquet we had southern-fried catfish, fried okra, white beans, slaw, potato salad, key-lime pie....it was all mouth-watering good.....don't think anyone went away hungry... As for the weather...it was HOT in Tennessee...but that is to be expected....with the exception of one short shower on Saturday morning, the skies were blue with not a cloud in sight....there was a pretty good breeze at night....I think that all who wanted to go cemetery-tromping got to without difficulty.... Most of the area historical/genealogical societies took part at one time or the other. All the area libraries were open and had volunteers on hand to help out. I think it would be fair to say that everyone found something....a new cousin/friend, a cemetery, a grave, a marriage certificate, a missing date....something to aid in their search..... Don Simmons was present with his books for the entire event. He was a virtual treasure trove of information for many lucky researchers. Well, I have rambled enough.....hope this helps....I'll be glad to attempt to answer any questions... Have a great weekend! Linda in W.TN

    2. I would like to start sharing my notebooks of obits with the rest of you and I'm wondering just how I go about doing this. I would like to send just a couple a day so others can get something from them. I have copies of obits pertaining to TN people going back probably to the 50's and I will never have time to enter them all in the computer. Also, does anyone know if it is ok to copy them for you verbatim or is that breaking a copyright law? I need advice. 1. DCH2000
    2. I want to personally thank everyone who participated in Danville Crossing's Homecoming 2000. I think it was a lot of fun and overall, a success. Everyone loooked so " spiffy" in the teeshirts with the logo our Jan designed, and all seemed to have found at least one new cousin or some bit of information they hadn't known before. Special thanks to jan for soldering on in the face of awful things happening around her, and to Linda, our on-site person without whom we really would not have been able to pull it off, and to Tim and if COURSE to Cher who was our guide and inspiration even when she was otherwise occupied. She was never far from our minds and hearts and the Reunion the held almost all on her own last year , was our base for being able to hold it again this year. The Silent Auction was very successful , with people buying souvineniers for themselves and family members, and quite a variety of talents were displayed in the items donated for the sale., and MUCH appreciated! I am home from what ended up over a 3,000mile-9-day trip, have been up since yesterday morning, so I am unpacking and packing ME into the bed! See you all when i am a little more rested-up!
