To the Most Excellent High Priest, King, and Scribe, and Companions of Armstrong Chapter, No. 97:—We, the undersigned committee, appointed to draft resolutions in regard to the death of our worthy deceased companion, SAMUEL T. ALLEN, beg leave to submit the following: Whereas, We are called upon to mourn for a companion whose memory we all fondly cherish, and whose counsels were ever given for the promotion and advancement of our Order; one who from the first organization of our Chapter until called away by the ruthless hand of death, has ever been prompt to obey the summons that dispenses the charities of our Order; therefore, Resolved, That in the death of Companion S. T. Allen, who was born — and died Sept. 16, 1878, this Chapter has sustained a loss that we regard as irreparable, though we bow in submission to Him who doeth all things well. Resolved, That we recognize in Companion S. T. Allen those high qualities and manly virtues that make men better by his having lived among them. Resolved, That as a man, as a citizen, as a Mason, and as an officer, both in civil and military capacities, he was faithful to the trust imposed upon him; that he was generous to a fault; and though of an impetuous nature, yet he was possessed of a kind heart and a most sociable disposition; his sympathies were ever deeply enlisted for the well being of his fellow man; that he aided the poor, assisted the needy, and involved himself pecuniarily for the good of his neighbors. We therefore feel that this Chapter and the community have suffered a calamity which will not be easily repaired. Resolved, That we not only extend our heart felt condolence to the relatives and friends of our deceased companion, but that our High priest be requested to appoint a committee of three to look after the interest and training of his orphan daughter, and to see that she be brought up under the teaching inculcated by our Order. Resolved, That the hall of Armstrong Chapter, No. 97, be draped in mourning for thirty days, and that a copy of the preamble and these resolutions be spread upon the minutes, and that a copy be furnished the near relations of the deceased, and also a copy be furnished the CHRISTIAN ADVOCATE, Dover Courier, and Houston County Review for publication.
