    1. Re: [TNHOUSTO] Re: Capt. Samuel T. Allen (circa 1830--1878)
    2. Hi Melissa and others, I am related, directly, to the people buried in the roadside cemetery where Samuel T, Allen is buried. John Hill Thomas (my great grandfather) died in 1859 as well as three of his children. There are all buried there along with his wife, Nancy Louise Allen and several others.. I have photos of the stones that are there, taken at a time when the site was kept cleared off. My father used to keep it cleared off, but he died in 1973. Then when my husband and I would visit Clarksville from Chicago we used to go there to work on it. After my mother moved up here in 1980 there was little interest in it and my trips down there have not been frequent or long enough to really do anything about it. I have been contacted now by a family member who is a g-g-g-grandson of John Hill Thomas who is buried there and he has expressed an interest in clearing the site with his sons. It will be wonderful if he can. There used to be an iron fence completely around the graves of John Hill and his family. The stone for Samuel T. Allen was outside the fenced area and was broken, down on the ground when I saw it last. The West family is buried close to the Thomas' and as I recall their stones were also enclosed by an iron fence. I never went inside the area. It was always in worse shape than the Thomas' site. I really appreciate all the additional information that everyone has sent in to the list. It has helped me expand the information on my family. Thanks! Deanna O.
