He was a very devoted genealogy/history researcher of the Stewart-Houston Counties area. I had spoken to him several times on the telephone and was always so helpful and eager to talk about genealogy. He will be really be missed. "The Tennessean" Newspaper Friday, July 15, 2005 IRA LEE BELL: Age 79, passed away July 14, 2005. Preceded in death by his wife Imogene (Parchman) Bell. He is survived by his children, Sandra Logue, Cynthia Woods, Elaine Hunter, William Bell. Grandchildren, Michelle Livingstone, Jacque Carrigan, Marisa Holt, Michael Woods, Clint Woods, Nicole Shelton, Ashley Bell and William Bell Jr.; 6 great-grandchildren; siblings W.E. Bell, Margaret Beasley, Walter Bell, Richard Bell, Michael Bell. Mr. Bell was a U.S. Navy Veteran and worked for CSX Railroad, formerly L&N Railroad, for over 41 years. He was a mason, a shriner, member of the Scottish Rite, York Rite and S.A.R. He was a deacon and chief financial officer for the Grassland Heights Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 16, 2005, 1 p.m. at the Woodlawn Chapel of Roses with Dr. Cal Cooper and Rev. Ronnie McKay officiating. Entombment will follow in the Woodlawn Cross Mausoleum. Visitation will be Friday 4-8 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. until time of service at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Grassland Heights Baptist Church.
