Does your Samual have a sister, Sarah Rebicca Allen? She was supposed to be the daughter of John and Phoebe Allen. If so, she married my Benjamin C Felts . ----- Original Message ----- From: <steven63@charter.net> To: <TNHOUSTO-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, November 05, 2005 3:41 PM Subject: [TNHOUSTO] Capt. Greg, I believe that Samuel T. Allen is buried in Houston Co., on Hgwy 149, just after you leave Stewart Co. and enter Houston Co. on the right hand side of the road if you are driving down 149 from Stewart Co. into Houston Co. The site is about 100 feet or less off the highway. There is a home there further back with a gravel/dirt road going past the grave site to the house. There is another family gravesite there too - as I recall it is for the West family. Samuel's gravestone is outside the iron fence for the small family plot of John Hill Thomas (he is my great grandfather), his wife Nancy Louise Allen (she was Samuel's sister) and several of their children., I have seen the gravestone there and somewhere among my things have a photo of it. The stone gives the date of death that you have and says that he was 49 years old when he died. I don't know where his wife, Sarah, is buried. His daughter, Fannie, is buried in the Cumberland City Cemetery next to her husband, William Nath! an Thomas. His gravestone was broken and on ther ground the last time that I saw it. Other information that I have on Samuel: Stewart Co. record book B, page 87, S.T. Allen applied for a liquor license, April 14, 1859. Page 111 of the same book indicates that W.T. Thomas (William Thornton Thomas) was the agent for S.T. Allen's liquor license. Stewart Co. record book XX, page 375 has a Constable Bond for Samuel T. Allen. Last year when I was in Stewart Co. I drove to the cemetery. It was in terrible condition, overgrown with "wild" trees and weeds. Once before when I was there, there was also poison ivy or poison oak around the fence and inside too. Someone else told me there are snakes in the area. I tried to make some arrangements with a cousin last year to have the gravesite cleaned up, but don't think anything was done about it. I am descenced from both the Allen family as well as the Thomas family. How do you fit in? Deanna Oklepek

The information given to me to put in the book on Mr. & Mrs. Kern is as follows (other people went to the cemeteries and obtained information from grave markers the best they could - some hard to read due to age).: Mr. & Mrs. Kern are buried in the Bethany Cemetery in Houston County, TN. Location reads: From Erin take Hwy 49 to Dickson. Take Bethany Road to cemetery on right side of road past the church - on hill above mouth of east Wallace Hollow, north of Bethany Road. Greg, I checked the cemetery book, 'They Passed This Way'; edition 2004. I found no listing under the surname of KERN. Have you checked the following counties for buriel: Montgomery County Dickson County Stewart County Cheatum County If you live near enough, you could visit the TN State Archive and Library in downtown Nashville, TN. They have the death certificates on film for that time period. Sorry, I couldn't be any more help. This email is to invite our sister Middle Tennessee Rootsweb site members to the Annual Seminar hosted by the Middle Tennessee Genealogical Society and the Tennessee Historical Society. Four genealogists and historians who have been previously voted as favorite speakers will headline this all-day seminar devoted to a variety of popular topics for both beginning and advanced family historians. Learn how to relate your ancestor to his era, how to practice proven genealogical techniques in both "old" and "new-style" research; how to mine early pioneer treasures hidden in the Draper Papers, and how to use cybergenealogy to your best advantage. Saturday, November 19, 2005 is the date; the Brentwood Public Library is the place. A registration form and a map and further details on our speakers and their topics can be found at http://www.mtgs.org <http://www.mtgs.org/> and http://www.rootsweb.com/~tntgs Let me thank all of you who joined the MTGS Rootsweb site. You may want to check back and review the surnames. As I worked through putting them on the site, I finally decided to list the surnames by the first surname contained in the email. My email box was flooded and I fear some were lost. If you do not find your surname, please resubmit your email to Mid-TN-L@rootsweb.com. It would be helpful if you would put as much information as you have in your email (such as dates; counties; and any other info you have). I have tried to post the website name at the top of each surname listing to make it easy for recipients of a "forward" to find our site. Hope to see you at the annual Seminar. In the 1870 Stewart County census is Dollie Atkins, widowed, with daughter Rachel, age 8. In the 1880 Houston County census is Rachel Hankins, age 18, with mother Dollie A. Crowder. I believe these are the same folks, and that Dollie Atkins remarried to a Crowder between 1870 and 1880. Dollie Vickers had married James J. Atkins in Stewart County in 1841. He died sometime between 1864 and 1870, in Stewart County. If you think this is the same family, I can share lots about the Atkins family of Stewart County.
