    1. [TNHICKMA] Hickman County Hobbs'
    2. Miriam Hobbs
    3. My name is Miriam and I am researching my husband's family which is Hobbs. The earliest we can verify his family is on the 1830 Hickman County Census where Joel C Hobbs was living with his new wife Rosannah White Hobbs and several children, some of which may have been children of other family members because Joel and Rosannah are too young to have had them all. This is my husbands gggrandfather. Family legend says Joel's father was John Hobbs from North Carolina and I am trying to verify if this is the truth, or if it is the Joel C Hobbs or Joel A Hobbs who were also in the area at the time. Our Joel C Hobbs' children were William Washington Hobbs, Mary, Jesse, David, James, Narcissa and Sarah. There may have been others and we are still searching. The family eventually moved to Humphreys County where the next generations were born. My husband and I found the old family graveyard in a pasture in Humphreys County with Joel and Rosannah's markers and some of the children. I am trying to place a Choate and Jakson (no c) who were also in this graveyard (which has fewer than 12 markers and is presumably only family). I have visited Vernon (what is left) and been to the Hickman Courthouse and several others in TN searching and have a number of deeds involving Hobbs and other lines, including Potter, Hunter and Dobbins. I am finding marriages between the families and trying to establish relationship to ours. I feel like I have a giant jigsaw puzzle with 10,000 piece and no clue what it is supposed to look like--but you may know that feeling. I look forward to sharing information. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com

    3. Hi, Miriam, I am from the Aaron Potter and Ruth Hobbs line.Through their son Joel. I would love any info on the Hobbs/Potter clan. I also have the Hickman Co TN 1807-1993 book and Spence History of Hickman Co. Spence's book mentions a Joel C. Hobbs as a captain in the Hickman Co militia in 1832 and as a major in 1836. I'll check my other Hickman books on thurs.
