Hi Sonja, You do not say what confuses you about the Elijah Langford family. I do not know a lot about the Langford/Lankford family, and do not have Elijah in my data base. I don't know if my information even will give you a clue. As far as I know, I do not have any direct ancestors with that surname. I do have Lankford cousins. I pick up the Lankford family in Effingham County, Illinois. Evidently there was a move from North Carolina to Hickman (and possibly Lewis) County, Tennessee, and then some went to Effingham County Illinois. The information I am gathering has the two spellings interchanged. My great grandfather married Lola Royston Lankford, in Effingham Co. She was his third wife and the widow of John S. Lankford. The most information I have is from my Lankford cousins who descend from John Hickman Lankford and Rodney Rhode Rentfrow. The Hensleys, Rentfrows (Renfro etc.), Tarrents (Tarrence etc.)Sharps, and Coheas, marry among themselves a number of times. Do you have any of those surnames in your database? If you do, you might look to Effingham County, Illinois. The oldest Lankford I have is John Hickman Lankford b. Abt. 1791 in North Carolina. I am his 3rd great grand niece through his wife. Hopes this helps. M. HI, There are still Lankfords living in Lewis Co., TN. One man, Hubert Lankford, is, I believe, one of the oldest men living in Lewis. He lives on Indian Creek and is very knowledgeable.
