Hello Listers, As we approach the end of the month, and as we ahve had more subscribers this month, I am publishing and update of the surname list for Hickman County. If you don't see yourself on there, let me know. If you see a connection, make it. Remember, not all connections have to be made off list. If you do all your work off list, then in 2 years when someone else comes along, they won't be able to connect via the benefit of all your hard work. Remeber these lists are archived, and you can go search the archives via the Rootsweb pages. GoodLuck all! My name is Daryl Phillips and I just suscribed to this list. I still live in Hickman County and am interested in all aspects of its history. Some of the ancestors I am researching from Hickman County are Phillips, Dunaway, Satterfield, Dorton.
Was sent this on another list. Thought all might be interested. A new series of 'Ancestors' programs, a family history and genealogy television series, will begin feeding to PBS stations in June. Check out the information on their web site. http://www.pbs.org/kbyu/ancestors/index.html Regards, Gordon Harbison Canton, Mich.

Hi folks, RootsWeb has a new service whereby we can gateway our query board with this mail list. Any time someone posts to the query board a copy will be sent to the mail list. List mode subscribers would be most affected - with an increase in mail by 2-6 messages per day. Digest subscribers will receive a larger digest - but still only one digest per day. What do you all think? Would this be a valuable service? There are alot of users who only post to the mail list and not to the query board and vice versa. I will not gateway our board/list unless I have your support for it. I, in no way, want to bombard any listmember with more email unless we feel it would be worth getting it! What do YOU think? Regards, Gordon Harbison TNHICKMA list coordinator

Hello Listers, I am in a quandary here, can anybody help? I believe that Josephine Isabel COCHRAN married Alexander Montgomery BELL on 9/16/1869 in Hickman County. According to IGI indices, she is the daughter of A.D. (Aaron?) COCHRAN and Nancy BOWEN. In reviewing some information, I came across a listing from the Hickman County Tennesse Cemetery Records, Part 1, by Jill Garrett and Iris H. McClain that has a COTHRAN Cemetery located on what was known as the old (blankedout) place in District 6 out in a field. It goes on to say that on 10.31.1965 Mrs. Baxter Murray (my father's Aunt Pearl) said she knew the following people were buried there. Bell, Montgomery Bell, Josephine Cothran, _____ (g-grandfather of Mrs. Murray) Cothran, _____ (g-grandmother of Mrs. Murray) Mrs. Murray pronounced the name as COTHRAN not COTHAM. Now here is my problem, dear old Aunt Pearl isn't around to ask. It is obvious that these are my kin, (would love to know where this cemetery is - does anybody have a clue?), but there are no COTHRAN's listed in the Hickman County Census that I can find. COCHRAN like it is listed in the IGI index (which is not known for its blazing accuracy) however can be found in the Census, in fact, I found an Aaron D. Cochran in the 1840 Hickman County Census. Does anyone have any ties to this family that may be able to help me work through this discrepancy? Your help is appreciated. Gordon Harbison Canton, Mich.

Hi Gordon, I want to order this book, but I wanted to check to see if some of my names are in there. Some of my names are; SKELTON, SHARP, HINSON, KELLY, REEVES, MATHIS, COTHAM, DAVIDSON, DEPRIEST an others. Also, if anyone out there has a copy of "Hickman County Tennessee, 1807-1993 in which they do a look-up to see if these names are in that book. I'm not sure that I can purchase this book at this time, but I would like to get it.
