I am working on Neil's line that descends from Owen and Elizabeth Lampley Sullivan's daughter, Nancy Ann. Do you descend from one of their children? It is the ancestors of Elizabeth Lampley that I was asking about. I am looking for Joseph Lampley's mother; and also, the parents of Mary Elizabeth "Beth" Robinson. I sure hope you can give me some guidance on these. Any help you can offer will be so much appreciated. Who is Joseph's mother, and the wife of Jacob Lampley; and, who are the parents of Mary Elizabeth "Beth" Robinson (or could be Roberson)? Any and all help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Velma
Spence's History of Hickman County speaks of Coble & it was written in 1900. There is no Centerville County in TN. Vernon was the county seat of Hickman County prior to the county seat being moved to a central part of the county, Centerville. I'm not familiar with Shubert. Hi all, Am interested in the name of BRIGGS,James G. and William are in my lines, James married Angeline Starnes and owned a grocery store in Centerville His daughter Virginia ( Jennie) married William David Warren s/o Ewell Warren and Gilla Packard They had Mattie La Tisha Belle Warrren who married Nathan Jasper Springer s/o Nathan WAller and Maryanne Mayberry They had Ida Springer who married Charley Frank Grimes s/o David Crockett and Leora Ferdona Edwards ANd I might add all those names I would be happy to know and hear about LOLOL But Briggs is my main goal at this point,I know William was James G. father and had a Methodist Chapel on Swan Creek years ago,and the logs were sold to ? I'd also like to know if there are any records left from this Chapel? ALso one other mystery that has had me stumped is the location of my grandmother's older brother Charlie Springer he was born in Hickman county @ 1898/1899.married Mattie Lee Gordon 12-16-1916 also in Hickman county. He was living with Thomas Anderson,Thomas may have been a cousin? But after this in the 1920 census, nothing. Can anyone tell me where he ended up? Thanks Cindy
Hi! I'm Christine Hindle. I have been researching several lines in Hickman County for over 25 years. I still have several puzzles to solve. I have available the following resources: History of Hickman County, Tennessee by Spence, Hickman County TN Quarterly and Monthly Minutes 1867-1878, Hickman County, TN Wills 1866-1982, Hickman County, TN Court Records 1814-1829. I also have the local newspaper on microfilm but at present do not have access to a microfilm reader to do lookups in it. Here are my puzzles: Who were Jesse Briggs' (b. 1807, d. 1878 -- lived in Swan Creek) 3 wives and which children go with which wife? My grandmother told me that one of Jesse's wives was being unkind to his two oldest daughters and he came home one day and found them being treated badly and ran her off. He told her anyone who could treat two motherless girls that way was not anyone he wanted around. I think this would be wife No. 3. I have wife no. 1 as Martha Ross and I don't know the name of daughter no. 1 b. 1830 but daughter no. 2 is Cornelia Camila Briggs b. 1835. I believe Macenus M. Briggs b. 1840 is also her child and she may have died in childbirth with him. I believe wife no. 2 who is shown as Martha A. in the census is Patsy Prince (my ancestor). I know she is the mother of John and George, but I believe she is also the mother of Jesse, William, Sarah, Howell and C. (b. 1861). I believe Margaret shown in the 1870 Census is wife no. 3 and that there were no children by her. John and George Briggs married sisters: Margaret Frances PEERY and Lucretia Catherine ("Cass") PEERY. Another puzzle is Margaret Frances Peery's father. I think he is Samuel PEERY (b. 1796 and died 1956), son of John PEERY and Martha WALLIS. Anyway, Mr. PEERY was a widower with some grown children and he married a school chum of his 14 year old daughter (also 14 years old) -- Caledonia STARNES(b. 1835, d. 1920). They had two little daughers, Margaret Frances and Cass (that married John and George BRIGGS). When Margaret was about 3 her daddy asked her to bring him an apple from the orchard. He had some bowel problem and wasn't supposed to have apples. It killed him. Caledonia later married a Will Hutcheson or Hutchinson. Samuel PEERY seems to have been a friend and neighbor of Jesse BRIGGS and had a 14 year old daughter at the right time to be Caledonia's friend. Caledonia, herself, is another mystery. Grandmother said she was raised by an old spinster named "Aunt Celie STARNES". You see Celie STARNES living with the BRIGGS in a couple of the CENSUS and she appears to be the same woman that is Angelina (STARNES) BRIGGS' mother. Angelina was married to James "Pap" BRIGGS, Jesse's brother. Her parents were Jackson and Celia STARNES. Patsy PRINCE is yet another mystery. She may be the daughter of William PRINCE born 1760-1770. All these names are very prevalent in Hickman County history but so far no one holds the key to unlock the mystery and put all these pieces together.
Hi Donna, Thanks for the look-up. I'm not sure it these tie in with my line, but I copied them 'just in case'. I'll check out the other counties you suggested, too. My line is from Cannon County, but they spread out in surrounding counties. Someone on the Spicer Genforum said the ones in Hickman and Dickson were cousins to the ones from Cannon, so hopefully I'll find a connection. Thanks again, and happy hunting! Ronnie
My name is Donna (Richardson) Holman. I lived in Hickman County from the time I was 6 until I got married and moved away. Through doing genealogical research there, I have discovered I am connected to about half the county some way or another. My main connections are through the MILLER family of Anderson Bend and through the DUNCAN and HUTCHISON families of Swan Creek. I also have sort of sorted out many collateral lines from these families. I can do lookups in the Hickman County Cemetery Books 1 & 2. I also have the Hickman County Marriages Book 2 and the History of Hickman County published by the Hickman County Historical Society in 1993 which is a compilation of family written histories. I look forward to hearing from some of you Hickman County researchers.
I see there are a few people with Bakers in Hickman Co. I am wondering if anyone knows what happened to Marticia M. (Fly) Baker. She was the wife of Fielding H. Baker of Maury Co., TN who died in 1864. She is also the mother of Robert W. Baker and 3 daughters. In 1900 she was living in Hickman Co. with her youngest daughter Laura who married James Worley. In 1905 she applied for a Confederate Widow's Pension, which stated she had been living in Hickman Co. since the war. Does anyone know when she died or the names of her other two daughters (M.A. b. abt. 1857 & S.L. b. abt. 1860)? Thanks, Von in California

I have been searching a long time and have finally found part of my quest. Hada Miller was born 1880 Hickman Co and was in the household of David C. Miller in 1880 Hickman Co census along with her brothers, James and Joseph. David did not have a wife listed on the census. He did have a Elizabeth Howell as a boarder and the children were listed under her in the census. Hada Miller's death certificate stated her mother's maiden name was Elizabeth Underhill and father was Dave Miller. No marriage license has been found so far. Does anyone have anything to add to this. HI, I am interested in finding more information on the McGuire family. Elijah, Merriman (or Merryman) and David M. are on the 1820 tax roll # 122 page 2 no township. Does anyone have anything on them. My husband's ggggrandfather Merry McGuire was born in Virginia in 1780. Merry's son Joseph was born in Tennessee in Tennessee,.County unknown. He was in Indiana shortly after 1820. I have not been able to prove where he was in Tennessee or where in Tennessee Joseph was born. Thanking you in advance. Lenda McGuire
To each and everyone on the list, I own both of the cemetery books, and both marriage record books, the will book, the confederate Soldiers book, Glimpses of the Past, The Overbury Story and a few of the Dickson County books. So if you need a look up just holler, some days I will be able to jump right in and do the look up, and then there are days that the family takes all my attention just bear with me and I will get it done. Also if you have plans to buy any of these books, they are wonderful. I had hoped to get the Hickman County 1807-1993, but am saddened to hear that it is sold out. Terry McD.
