Would > anyone be able to tell me anything about him? > Thank you for any help or direction. > Bonnie > Bonnie, As you can see, I am WAY behind in my email. I ran across your above query today and when I looked on my Family Tree Maker I realized we may have family in common. I have that my ancestor William DUNCAN supposedly had a brother named Alexander Crockett DUNCAN. Since William's parents were supposed to be James DUNCAN and Mary CROCKETT (a cousin to Davy Crockett of coonskin hat fame), I assume he was named after his mother's family. I have not found any hard evidence to convince me that William was actually a son to James and Mary, just hearsay and "tradition". I know this is not help to you but maybe you know something I don't know. I do have that William DUNCAN was born in 1790 and moved to Hickman Co in the early 1800s. His first child, William Hamilton DUNCAN was born in Hickman Co about 1815. I did hear somewhere long ago that he and a brother came to Hickman Co after their father was "Killed by Indians" in Kentucky. But that is where I get lost trying to see if James was really his father. There was a James DUNCAN killed by indians but he left a wife and 4 small children. See the email I got a little over a year ago. It may help you or not. Let me know if we can connect or not. Donna Holman Wooster OH Subj: Duncan Date: 3/4/00 9:28:04 PM Eastern Standard Time From: Jdunc55 To: Djholman There are 2 Duncans that were killed be Indians, that I am aware of. 1-John Pekin Duncan b-23 Aug 1730 Culpeper Co, Va d- 29 Sep 1774 Washinton Co, VA killed by Indians at Moore's Fort on the Clinch River This fact is well documented in histories of SW VA. The DAR have a historical marker at the site. Also, court records show who was appointed guardianship of the minor children. Not all the children were mentioned. The widow, Rachel Warren, later remarried the guardian, Melcher Olyer. She had a dispute over the land John and brother Rawley owned. There seems to have been at least 4 children: John Pekin,Jr Martin William unknown sister When John P, JR applied in later years for a Rev pension, he stated that the record of his birth was in the family Bible taken years ago by his sister. 2The next person in my research material, I don't know whom sent us this info, is Rawley Duncan, brother of John Pekin mention in 1. He seems to have married 2x. wife #2 may have been a Sallie McLane by whom he had 6 children. Son James m Mary Crockett. It was stated he was killed by Indians at Paint Lick, KY @ 1791 leaving his widow with 4 small children. Enough for now. By the way my ancestor is John Pekin, killed by the Indians. My line continues with s/John. Let me know what you think. There is information on this linage back to Scotland, but I am now wondering if what has been passed around by others is accurate. 3. Hi Tina, I would be glad to have Rick Warrick's e-mail address. I did purchase a copy of Rick's 1999 book on Leiper's Fork when I was there. Is there now a second book? There were three brothers named LEEPER who signed the Cumberland Compact in 1780. The best known is the James who died a year later in fighting with local Indians and is buried on the statehouse grounds, then part of Ft. Nashboro. His family is well documented, and I have much of that. My wife descends from James' brother Hugh who settled in the area, and eventually was buried in Hickman County, probably where a son or daughter of his lived. It is information about the rest of Hugh's family that I am seeking and presently have scant information about. The third brother, George, moved on into Kentucky, as I understand it and would be of secondary interest. Thanks. On Sun, 29 Apr 2001 10:25:35 -0400 "Tina M. 3. If someone died in Centerville in the early 1900's , what funeral homes were in the area? I was told of a family member being picked up by a vehicle that looked like an old school bus when he died. Does this type of thing ring a bell with anyone as to what this vehicle may have been?? Would it be some type of body removal service of some sort? He was a very poor man, also so I would doubt that it would be a hearse.

    3. Hi Eugene... I bought a book while in Leiper's Fork, TN which is real close to Franklin, WIlliamson County, TN. There is a couple of pages in this book on the history of Leiper's Fork. Apparently, there were various spellings of the name Leiper, Leeper etc. The original I believe was Leeper. I will have my husband scan those pages and will send them to you, if you would like. This man Leeper settled in that area. We also went to the Leiper's Fork Library while there. THe librarian there was very informative on the area. I will also send you email address for the town historian, a Mr. Rick Warrick who wrote the book. THere was alos a previous book that he wrote on Leiper's Fork but I did not buy that one. THe book was $40.00 and is available in just about every store, restaurant etc down there. Tina "Eugene L. Atkin" wrote: > Hi again, Tina, > > I am a LEIPER, LEEPER researcher. 1. [TNHICKMA] Lost 1810 census records of Hickman County revealed!
    2. To the List: You should be aware of an important new Tennessee research book which will be available in June. "The Reconstructed 1810 Census of Tennessee" by Charles Sherrill contains 33,000 long-lost records from tax lists, court minutes, church records, deeds, wills and other sources. Many records from Hickman County and the surrounding area are included. The original Tennessee census for 1810 was destroyed with other records in Washington, D.C., long before microfilm was invented. With it went many valuable clues to Tennessee history and genealogy from a period when the state was filled with families seeking cheap land and migrating westward. In order to reconstruct the lost census, the author worked with a wide variety of records from 1809 to 1811 in an effort to track every adult male in Tennessee. In addition many entries describing women, children, free blacks and slaves were also located. The author is a well-known Tennessee genealogist, librarian and lecturer. This is the most ambitious undertaking of his 20-year career. His other recent works include "Tennessee Convicts" and "Tennesseans in Court." This 600-page book should be in every Tennessee research collection. For information on ordering a copy for yourself or your local library, e-mail Chuck Sherrill at bookish59@cs.com. Order in April to receive a $10 pre-pub discount.
