Thank you so much for your reply! I think the name must be a mistake...I have located Peter and wife Mary on the 1850 Census living in Weakley Cty. TN, with my great-grandfather Julius who would have been 11 at the time. On the listing, he is written as "Inkas" (???) which is again, probably a mistake (unless it was a pet name). The birthdates and places match, so I am sure it is the right Gale. Do you have any suggestions about other documents that might list his exact place of birth? I am trying to track down as many Gales as I can, hopefully to find out where in Great Britain the family came from (and get all the information I can about all the family along the way). I am just starting out in my searching - a cousin of mine has been doing this for some years, but she isn't nearby, nor is she on-line.
