    3. Pat, The OLIVE - Williams connection in Henry Co. is very mis-understood. Most early Williams researchers apparently didn't research very well, ignored or didn't understand the 'public record' data concerning Martha & Nancy Olives' relationship with the Williams families with whom they lived. Compounding the problem, is the confusing data concerning the origins of both the William M. Williams and John Leonard Williams families in Henry Co., though it is obvious that the 2 families are related. I have included below some excerpts from the 'public records' to demonstrate the problem. Nancy OLIVE Williams is my wife's 2g-grandmother as well as her 3g-aunt. This wierd relationship developed as a result (detailed below) of the heavy inter-marrying of the descendants of both the William M. Williams and John Leonard Williams families amongst each other and the Wimberley families. I have not yet determined the exact relationship between Martha & Nancy Olive, or how they came to be in the different Williams households. I need yet to review the Court Minutes of Henry Co. to be sure, but suspect that Martha & Nancy were orphaned and subsequently 'welfared' to the respective Williams families under the Orphan & Pauper laws of the County. One of the Goodspeed references gives the following: "In the fifteenth District {of Henry Co.} the most prominent and earliest families to settle were the Williams, the Arnolds, the Olivers, and the Tiptons, this last family has been mentioned earlier in our history. "William M. Williams, a substantial farmer and his wife Nancy, had a family of small children in 1850. Living with them was Martha OLIVE age 17 a native of Tennessee. {the TN reference is different than your Kentucky} "John H. Williams, Jr., age 25, a native of Mississippi was residing here also. His wife Elizabeth age 22 was also born in Mississippi, and they had a family of young children. Living with them was Nancy OLIVE. "Frequently the name Oliver and OLIVE are confused. It seems quite likely that both families were represented in Henry County some time before 1850. A detailed study of these two names may prove that they descend from a common ancestor: however, what I have at this time is clearly definites one as Olive and the other as Oliver. The two above mentioned Nancy and Martha are definitely shown as OLIVE......." The 1850 Census clearly shows this difference also. The following is a listing of the John Leonard WILLIAMS Family of Henry Co, TN. As you review the chart you notice that John Henry Williams' son married William M. Williams youngest daughter. Additionally, you will notice that William M. Williams' name is quite prevalent among John Henry's descendants. Also, please notice that Nancy OLIVE Williams named her 1st daughter, Martha Olive Shelly Wimberly, after Martha OLIVE. I would appreciate sharing any information you may be able to provide concerning the origins of the OLIVEs. Current Williams researchers, including my father-in-law who volunteers every Wednesday at the Rhea Library in the Genealogy section, are content to let the "myth" concerning Martha & Nancy continue, as well as, sorting out the various birthplaces of Tenneessee, North Carolina, Mississippi, Kentucky, etc. Anyway, hope this helps & let me know, Dave BTW: I believe William M. Williams middle name is Monroe. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ 1.
