Joan, the SSDI shows a Samuel Lipford born 11 Nov 1916, died Feb 1977 in Bolivar, Hardeman Co., TN. Could that be your Samuel Lipford? The secret may be that he was at Bolivar. You know it's Tennessee's equivalent of Hopkinsville in Kentucky. Mary Louise, That sounds like a very good possibility..But the date of birth does not match!! I guess it is possible that who ever committed him could have been mistaken about his date of birth..He did not have a son named Sam that I know of..But this guy could not have just disappeared off the face of the earth..I always thought it very strange that in his mother's obit, it only mentioned 2 living children. So, I naturally assumed that Sam preceded her in death..But, according to all the records that I have been finding, that was not the case... I was shocked to get the info from Virginia saying he was still alive in 1960..My husband should have known him. His great granddad (Sam's brother) practically raised him..He says he never knew his great granddad had a brother.. There is definitely a mystery here..And I do love a "good mystery"..
