Lookups are fine and I have used them myself occasionally. However, if nobody ever bought a book, there couldn't be any lookups. Currently our local genealogical society has much original material we could publish BUT we need to sell more of our books so we can publish more. The internet has been a big help to genealogists, and I am grateful for it, but it has hurt the small publisher. If you have several family names in one area, please consider buying some of their publications. Mary Louise Outgoing mail checked by Norton AntiVirus
Mary Louise You should look into the surprising things that the new, high tech "document management" copy machines such as Xerox or Oce' and others can do. (check around and look at samples). They can produce a bound paperback book with text and graphics, complete with variable paper colors, heavy cover stock paper and other options. You can choose a color or black & white cover. The machine will also insert pre printed pages if you have things that are printed on a press that need to be inserted in your book. They are very versatile and produce a good product. The main advantage is that you do not have to maintain any inventory. It's printed on demand. This alllows you to produce books without worrying about whether you'll sell 500 copies or only 20 copies. When you get ready to produce 3 books, or 10 books, or 55 books, you just take your book CD to the copy machine owner (or give him a call for a reprint) and tell them how many you want. Most large print shops have one or more of these machines. You can get your books the next day. At 04:01 PM 1/10/2005 -0600, you wrote: >Lookups are fine and I have used them myself occasionally.
