I am a Volunteer and it is exactly what it means and then some. I do not charge for gas unless I travel to another town over 100 miles or so, I don't charge for just a few copies and what goes around comes around. Because I search for adoptees, foster siblings and birth parents most of the time, on occasion they appreciate it enough to send money. I put that towards the databases and all the things I do. One guy was so happy to get his divorce papers so quickly that he sent $100. What do I really get out of this? I get satisfaction that someone has found a loved one or have knocked down that brick wall they have been up against for years.
