Joan, If you would assume that the correct name would have to be used on a marriage cert or any other kind of old record, you would have assumed wrong. There have been errors both spelling and otherwise on marriage, and death certificates, burial records, tombstone records etc. There are spelling errors on my ggg grandmothers marriage record as well as an error on my grandfathers death certificate. Joseph and Joe are acceptable "nicks" for Josephis, so if all your dates and other information matches, its probably him. There is a 19 yr old Josephus Albrittan in the 1880 census, in Graves Co. KY, with his father John Albrittan, John's wife Mary and several siblings. John was b TN.
