Thanks Genie for searching for info on Machison & Handcout. The names were listed along with a Peden & Rodgers Coffin $18.00, and a Bunch & Horseman $19.32. It listed Machison/Madison & Hancout $65.00. The list was in records of Henry Co in 1854. I just assumed it was possibly the name of the Funeral Home. I don't even know if they had Funeral Homes back in 1854. It was just a guess on my part, but obviously I was wrong. Whoever they were they had something to do with my gg granddad. Thanks so much for your help, Joan Broach Morris P.S. I went to the Court House the other day & inquired about the laws about trying to reset or fix tombstones at the old cemeteries. I was told the cemeteries are property of the church, if a church is still present. If no church is there, I have to find the group of people who own it and ask their permission before I can attempt to make repairs. They said every cemetery has a group of people who own & maintain it, or pay to have it maintained. I have to find out who they are & get permission before I can do anything to the graves & stones. So now I guess I will have to start by questioning the lawnmower man. He has to know who pays him.
