    1. BRIZENDINE CEMETERY

    3. Hello, Can anyone tell me the exact location of Brizendine Cemetery? I went looking for it today. According to the directions on DIGS, I think I possibly found it, but if so, it is in the middle of someone's yard (horse pen..) We drove up to the house, it said Slaughter Farm on a sign out front. There were dogs everywhere in the yard and horses in the fenced in area beside the house. In the middle of it all surrounded by horses & fences was a small cemetery...No sign to identify it anywhere. We knocked on the door, but no answer. My husband said we should not trespass on the property to check out the cemetery. Does anyone know if it indeed was Brizendine Cemetery?? In TN are you allowed to have access to cemeteries no matter where they are? In KY you have the right to walk across anyone's land to get to the public cemetery. But in KY, all cemeteries are distinctly labeled out on the road...so you know there is a cemetery in the area somewhere..Seems in TN, you are sort of on! a wild goose chase..If you don't know exactly where you are going, you'll never find it..Even seems if you do know exactly where you are going, hopefully after you hike around for miles...you might get lucky!! That has been my experience with cemetery searchings in TN anyway...If anyone can help me with the exact location of Brizendine, I would appreciate it muchly!! Thanks, Joan Broach Morris

    2. Joan, In Tennessee, if you have family buried there, you MUST have access to the cemetery. That is state law. Further, the landowner can be required to fence the cemetery to protect it.
