    3. I wish you would tell me where this family is in the 1880 census. I have hunted and hunted them but can not find them..........I knew there was another child but didn't know the name until you sent the email, that being the 2nd child cause he isn't listed on the 1900 census .........must have already been gone.......... My husband, Ralph Clement LAMB remembers going to see Uncle Floyd at Henry, Tn....... Do you have the spouses, children and etc...........sure would love to have that...........I will be happy to share anything with you also...... I think and I am pretty sure that Miss Bettie's mother was Elizabeth ?? OWEN but do not find a daddy..........in the 1850 census seems he would only be gone no more than a year since there is a 1 year old in the household..........you got any answers??????? thanks pj ----- Original Message ----- > James "Jim" Justice Clement > February 05, 1850 > January 22, 1918 Buried Palestine Cemetery, Henry Co, Tennessee > > married: > > Sarah Elizabeth "Miss Bettie" Owen > April 23, 1852 > December 17, 1921 Buried Palestine Cemetery, Henry Co, Tennessee > > Children: > 1) William Ernest Clement 1882 1972 Childress Texas > 4 children > > 2) Katherine "Kate/Kattie" Love Clement 1875--1948 Palestine Cemetery, > Henry Co, Tennessee > 3) Warren "Doc" Lee Clement 1878 1955 buried Lamesa, Dawson Co, Texas > 2 children > 4) Walter Matherson Clement 1883--1940 Palestine Cemetery, Henry Co, > Tennessee > 5) Lula Belle Clement 1888 1925 buried ? 3. Joan: I've been working on the family of Catherine Matthewson, wife of Nathan Glenn Clement, for some time. Catherine was the daughter of John and Isabella Matthewson, both born in Scotland in/before 1774. The family apparently was in Smith Co. as early as 1809 when their son, Daniel, was born. I show Catherine birth as Sept. 1807, so she may have been born in Smith Co., as well. The family was in Stewart Co. by 1810 according to tax and War of 1812 records. They finally settled in Henry Co. in/aft 1826 based on the sale of their property in Stewart Co. that year. John died about 1835. Isabella and dau., Margaret, can be found in the Henry Co., Mortality Schedule of 1860. Margaret died of TB at age 50, and Isabella of old age at 94, but I believe her age to have been 84 instead based on census records. Catherine's sibs were named Daniel, Margaret, Nancy, John Jay, and Roderick. You'll notice the names Roderick and John Matthewson, plus Isabella, among the children of Nathan Glenn and Catherine. Catherine's sister, Nancy, married of George M. Arnett of Henry Co., but Margaret and Roderick apparently never married. Catherine's brother, Dr. John Jay Matthewson, Paris, was my father's g. grandfather. Unfortunately, I have been unable to trace any further back on John and Isabella, but I'm still in hopes of discovering one of these days what part of Scotland they came from, and where they first arrived in this country. Other Matthewson family connections: Catherine's brother, Daniel, married Lucy Gabrella Scruggs in 1838 in Murray, Calloway Co., KY. Their daughter Alice Gertrude Matthewson married Edwin Wiley Grove of Grove's Chill Tonic fame. Daniel and Lucy seemed to have lived out their lives in KY. He was one of the signers of the Ordinance of Secession of Kentucky for Calloway Co. in 1861. (D. Mathewson) Daniel's son, Dr. John Porter Matthewson, married Mary Anna Currier, dau. of Nathaniel and Martha Manley Currier of Paris. This couple had sons also named Daniel and John Jay Matthewson. (It really gets confusing because Drs. John Jay and John P. both had sons named John Jay.) The name Matthewson can be found spelled a number of ways, so Soundex is always a big help. You'll often find the name with one 't' or missing an 'h' or even spelled Mattison. I have Nathan Glenn Clements parents as Daniel Clement and Wilmouth Irby, but I did not note a source. Probably came from Rootweb World Connect, so am not sure how accurate this is. Can you verify this for me? If you should come across any information on this particular Matthewson family, I would love to correspond with you.
