The church was founded in 1848 on land donated by Weakley County farmer Samuel Hays (1790-1875). Samuel Hays moved from Roberston County,TN to Henry County, TN ca 1832 and settled near the Whitlock community. He then moved to District 5 Weakley County in 1839. Services at the church continued until possibly the early 1930's. The original church building was torn down. All that is left is a cemetery in front of where the church building once stood. Some of the first trustees of the church in 1848 were William Old, Pleasant I. Fiser, Archibald J. Fiser, Samuel Hunt, and Lewis Lafon. I would love to hear from anyone out there who has any information concerning Hays Chapel Methodist Church. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
