The HANDY BOOK FOR GENEALOGISTS says, "Division of Vital Records, State Department of Health, 275 East Main St., Frankfort, KY 40601 , has birth and death records from the beginning of 1911. The City Health Department in some of the larger cities have still earlier records. Records of births and deaths from some counties as early as 1851 are in the library of the Kentucky Historical Society, Frankfort, KY. 40601. " For Tennessee, the HANDY BOOK gives this information, "Official registration of births and deaths began in Tennessee in 1914. Official registration of marriages and divorces began in 1945. These records may be had from the Division of Vital Statistics, State Dept. of Public Health, Nashville, TN 37203. Check with the office of the City Health Dept. in the particular city in which your ancestors lived as you are ready to conduct the search." You may find some of the larger libraries have these records on microfilm.
