Ok here is a stab at this. Do you know for sure that the father of your Charley is John? My guess would be no. I believe his father was Adley T. 1824-1861 who married Elizabeth B. Ellis 1822 -? Adley's father was James Mathis 1799-1862 and mother Isabelle Boyd 1799-1876. James was our John's (1824-1884) brother, he was married to Jane Stewart. One of their kids, John Byron Mathis, had a daughter in law that was named Myrtle, and she was a Mandle but she was much younger than the rest of them, she married into the family in 1914. First wife, Nora Joyce; second wife Anetta Greer. I would like to contact someone from his family to see if I can find info on Charlie's father, John Mathis, and 2 sisters, Myrtle & Onie. Would appreciate any help! Thanks. Debbie, Here is my info on John Mathis. He was born in 1858 in Tennessee. His middle name was either Erwin, Irwin or Irvine, think it is Irvine (several grandsons named after him). He married Kittie Ann Griffin in 1879. Their children: Pink Joseph (my grandfather), Rosa C. (Rosie), Charlie, Francis (female), Onie (female), Sampson, Myrtle, & Erton. I can't find anything to confirm John's family but I have some good possibilities. I can't find anything on Onie and Myrtle after they married and left home. My dad remembers them as Onie Cook and Myrtle Pipkins. Myrtle was shown on Sampson's obit as Myrtle Houston! Only adds confusion to the story. If anything you have resembles any of this I would appreciate hearing from you. Thanks!
