Abraham Reed NEWPORT married Phoebe CONYERS in Warren Co KY in 1818 and then moved to Henry Co TN. Phoebe's father, Mordecai CONYERS and his wife Elizabeth, moved at a later date to the area known as Conyersville- just east of Puryear. I am interested in any information that anyone has on this family and their ancestors and descendants. Suzie Morris Ball Stone Mountain Ga
Hi Folks, There is know an opportunity to have scans of the individual Federal Census pages for your counties uploaded to the internet permenately for everyones viewing for most of the Census years from 1800 to 1920. Groups may want to pool their resources to get this accomplished for a minimal amount of $$$$$$'s. Info is contained in the following email from the USGenWeb. I'm not sure if I have posted my surname in Henry County. BINYON, William b. born 1818 Henry County TN (source LDS ancestry file). He married Lydia TURNER 1843 in Gibson County TN. She is the daughter of William TURNER and Tabitha BILLINGSLEY. These families seem to move from place to place together, so anyone researching these surnames, please contact me. I just finished searching the microfilm on Deeds for Henry Co, and found a number of people's names, who bought land from my ggrandfather, and who witnessed the transactions. I would love to have been able to make copies of the complete deeds, but unfortunately the FHC I have access to does not have a copier, and my notes had to be made in longhand ! Since the same FHC is open only one day a week, from 2 to 6 P.M.,it necessitated several trips ( to another town ) and my notes are skimpy. However, I did try to note the page numbers, so if you find your ancestor and want to follow up on it,( the exact location ) you will have that much information. Notes:Oct.30,1820,* J.Scott BROWN was Justice of the Peace and presiding magistrate of county court. 1831* Benjamin C. BROWN was a clerk, as was James HICKS. Other names of interest (to me)were* John BROWN,*Franklin FOSTER,*James JACKSON,* John JONES. I would like to think all of you found at least one name, or clue, even if only to verify that they were there during this time frame. Obviously (grin) I'm on a hunt for BROWNs, and their connections. Henry Brown had daughters who married men with many of these surnames: ( can you help me tie it up??) Henrietta BROWN m FOSTER (Elijah? David?Franklin?) Rilda BROWN m DOLLAHITE (Robert?) Susan BROWN m DOUGLAS Anna (Annie,Anne) BROWN m GRAVES (Lewis?) I am wondering if Anna may have been previously married to Peter R.YOUNG, who witnessed so many of these transactions, and who also witnessed one of them??? Henry's wife is said to have been Susan LIGON,whom I beleive to be a close relative to Peter LIGGON. James, Hugh, and Robert YOUNG may have been his grandchildren?(IF my assumption is correct !) I feel like I have the missing pieces to my Henry Co.ancestors, if only someone can help me get them in proper places !! Since these people were there so early in the formation of Henry Co, I beleive the Browns named here are definitely related, and came from the same place. Please help, if you have any knowledge of the starred(*) names, or anyone that intermarried with them. BTW, there was no census for Henry Co. before 1830,so this should prove helpful (I hope) Thanks for your responses, Marietta

Oops, see error in my original post. Parents of James H (Hunt?) Howard are Barnett and Jane (Hunt) Howard, not Memucan. Jane's parents are Memucan Hunt and his wife Mary "Polly" Wade. Sorry for my carlessness. Sharon (Catlin) Coleman billcol@ix.netcom.com
I am looking for information on my 2g-grandparents and their children: James H. (may be for Hunt) HOWARD (b. 5 Dec 1794 Granville Co., NC, d 16 Apr 1882 Henry Co., TN) was m. 31 Aug 1820 in ? to Jackey Lawrence BOWDEN (b. 19 Jul 1801 in ?; d. aft 1884 in Henry Co., TN) James was the son of Memucan and Jane (Hunt) HOWARD. Jackey was the daughter of Elias and Celia (Lawrence) BOWDEN. It is believed the Bowden's are buried in Cottage Grove, Henry Co.?, TN. I have no other information for the Bowden family. I do not know where the Howards are buried. Alleged vitals for the children of James and Jackey are: Memucan Howard (b. ?; d. ?), m. ? to Angeline Morphus Rufus Howard (b. ?; d.? [in childhood?]) Angeline Howard (b. 1826; d. Dec 1832) never married? Barnett Allen (b. 28 Sept 1827 in ?; d. ? in ?) m. 14 Aug 1851 to Sarah James? Elias Howard (b. ?; d. prob. 1849 in CA or NV) m. ? Broadie Howard (b. 22 Jan 1832 in ?; d. ? in ?) m. (1) Nancy E. Landers; m. (2) Emma Kendall Clementine (b. 1834 in ?; d. 1841 in ?) Dewitt B. Howard (b. 1836 in ?; d. Sept 1878 in Paris Co., TN) m. ? DeWitt allegedly committed suicide, where will I find documentation of this event? James H. (again may be Hunt) Howard Jr. (b. 1838 in ?; d. ? in ?) m. ? to Caroline Clemens? Nathan Calvin (b. 9 or 11 May 1841 in Henry Co., or Memphis, TN; d. 3 Nov 1924 in Brooks Co., TX) m. 6 May 1866 Henry Co., TN to (1) Mattie LOVE (b. ?; d. 15 Nov 1874 in TX?) Is anyone search these families that can help me find my missing dates and/or places of events? Any help is appreciated. Sharon (Catlin) Coleman billcol@ix.netcom.com
At 01:38 PM 6/15/98 -0400, you wrote: >Dave, >Do you by chance know the parents of Nancy Olive that was adopted by the >Williams. I am a Olives of Henry Co. descendent. >Thanks, >Tana =================================== Hi Tana, The short answer............ No, but some of records give a hint to several possibilities. The 1850 Census of Henry County lists the family of John Henry Williams, Jr., age 25, living in the 15th district near the family of William M. Williams, age 38. Most references indicate that the 2 families were not recently related, (and John's 2nd son, John Leonard, later married William M.'s youngest daughter, Sarah). THe census goes on to list John's wife, Elizabeth C., and 2 sons, James M. & John Leonard, ages 4 & 2 respectively, along with a child, Nancy OLIVE, age 1. Goodspeeds' History of Henry County also list the baby as Nancy OLIVE, and not Nancy WILLIAMS. Additionally, from the birth dates of John Leonard and Nancy OLIVE is highly unlikely, but not impossible, that Elizabeth could have had Nancy so soon after John Leonard. However, more of the story lies down the road in William M. Williams household where you find Martha (Mary) OLIVE, age 17, (quite possibly, Nancy's mother or sister) living in the household along with Spencer GREEN, age 8, Davidson GREEN, age 6, Benjamin Franklin GREEN, age 3, and Lucy Ann WOOD, age 12, plus Williams' sons, Robert W, age 16, & William Cicero, age 10, and daughter, Mississippi L., age 12. It appears that William & his wife, Nancy, age 40, not only were raising their own family, but had taken in a few orphans as well. Additionally at this time, Williams wife, Nancy, was pregnant with their next daughter, Sarah, which is probably why baby Nancy OLIVE was down the road with the John & Elizabeth. Interestingly, Nancy OLIVE Williams and James Monroe Wimberly named their 1st daughter, Mary OLIVE Shelly Wimberly, and their 1st son, David GREEN (from the William M. orphans) Wimberly. Nancy OLIVE Williams is my wifes' 2g-grandmother. I have not been able to determine Nancy's parents so far. The records are quite sketchy. If you can provide any information, I would greatly appreciate it. Let me know, Dave

Are there any HANCOCKs on this list? Melva Hancock-George
I have worked up stories for the new Weakley Co. book on the Nicholas Byars family from Granville Co. NC and the Wesley Alexander Byars family. These were most likely 1st cousins. I am always willing to share information. Nicholas and crew were in the Cottage Grove area, and some of his children and Wesley Alexander, Alfred, etc. were in the Palmersville area of Weakley Co. (just across the county line.) -- Gail Shepard Tomlinson Senatobia, MS
I have a Rebecca Norrid married a Joseph Walker about 1820 in Tn. I have been told people think her father was a Jerry Norrid of Stewart CO Tn.SO I would like to collect all the information I can about Norrid. Jerry married, they say, Martha Priestly about 1800 I quess.(Or earlier) I did find a Larkin Priestly Norrid fought in War of 1812 from what looks like Stewart CO Tn. A Joseph Walker seems likely to have been in the same company. I think the Wm Norrid in Henry is supposed to be the brother of Jeryr Norrid. But maybe people just said that. SInce Norrid/Nored/Norward/Nard etc seems a rare name I thought it would be worth while to try and enqire about them all. SO if there are any others out there interested in Norrid I would be pleased to hear from you! JoyBenemann
Hi Folks, Knox Martin (knoxmart@gateway.net) submitted the following query. Please contact him directly if you have information pertinent to his inquiry. LOWRY. Looking to establish if Susannah LOWRY (1810-1873), wife of William JORDAN (1810-1866) of Carroll County, Tennessee, is the same Susannah LOWRY who was the daughter of Elijah LOWRY (1774-1842) and his wife Susannah LOWRY (1773-1855) of Henry County. Elijah and Susannah had a daughter named Susannah who was also born in 1810.
Hello, I just joined your discussion list. I will give some general info about the families that I am searching from Henry County, Tenn. I am most interested to find land and deed records for George Broach while he lived in Henry Co, Tenn. They moved into Henry Co sometime after 1827. I search the LIGHTFOOT AND BROACH families. I"ll start with some profile info first. I am searching for any descendants of George and Jane Broach. Also descendants from Caroline Matilda Lightfoots family below. O.K.,O.K.- I get it. Paris is so small that you can't get lost. But you don't realize that some people have the ability to get lost in their basements, and I am one of them. I guess if I can find Monkey's Eyebrow Ky., I can find Paris Tn. But I once did get lost in Paris Ky. Anita
