Ok... I am conceding... This is a very doable idea.. IT is the responsibility of YOU ..... EACH OF YOU to bring a plain (no lettering or pictures on it) Tee shirt... white or colored... and when you ck in and register we will use a permanent marker to put your 5 current surnames on the back and your name and email addy on the front... (c: That way you pick the size, color and quality of the shirt.... and no money has to be mailed or orders waited for NO shirts to big or small ... no third parties... etc... JUST DONT FORGET YOUR SHIRTS... IF YOU WANT TO PARTICIPATE.. Go get em now and put em in the suitcase so you wont forget.... <vbg> There will be games... and doorprizes.... contests... and some samples of some some secret food.... I am bringing... you will flip... REALLY!!! Just dont forget your shirts!! Cher

Here is SOME information... You Benton Countians!!! Friday nite is the Geneological Societies regular meeting...at 6:30 P.M. A perfect evening for you! It is at the Library meeting room in the Basement on Walnut Street. Brenda Griffith is our contact and is doing a bang up job gathering information for us. God Bless Brenda! Here is the plan. Because we are such a diverse group, we are having a loosly knit structure for this first gathering. Technically there are 5 counties. (But, you all have adopted Dickson and me...so it is 6 <bg>) You all have different goals and interests in these counties. Because of this, we are providing to you packets that will be available Thursday and Friday at a check in table for Danville Crossing at the lodge. These packets will have 'tourist' information, locations, times, contacts, a map, planned scheduel of our meetings, Cemetery locations, Funeral home locations to each county....and anything else we think may be beneficial. FRIDAY: We will meet at a hospitality room at the Lodge (it will be available for us at noon Thursday thru the morning of Sunday... we can meet there and spread out materials...) After the meeting, we will gather for Breakfast at the Paris Landing Lodge ..making personal plans.. ie: do you want to group up and go to the courthouses and catch them open on Friday and in the afternoon hit cemeteries or Libraries... it is a personal call. Friday night will be the meeting of Benton Counties Gen Soc.. 6:30 . Many of us will want to attend that. You will make your own meal arrangements.. as we will be scattered most of the day. Saturday: Morning You will be able to hit the Libraries, Cemeteries, Funeral homes and stalk around. The day is yours. to use... Saturday evening regroup as a whole at the park and have a BBQ or cookout and bon fire ... visit and share information.. Sunday meet for breakfast ... and decide if we want to do this again.. and when and how structured we want it to be. Another thing... I know some of you want the goodies... the shirts, or hats and more structure of activities. The costs of shirts and hats can be expensive since our group is not large enough to bring prices down( this year) .A lot of thought went into this... and the diversity of interest --will break the groups down to small numbers, several folks staggering in at different times and some only staying Saturday...... all affect our ability to create structure. Since we are all somewhat experienced with gen research... (and speakng for myself) I joyfully spend days and days in the courthouse at Charolotte eating peanuts and drinking a flat coke and not talking to anybody or seeing the light of day.. <vbg> We need to spend our time looking, reading, copying and photographing, and stone rubbing during the days..... we can visit in the evenings.... when we cant do these other things. Below is a list of the folks that are making a valiant effort to come. Please let me know if you want to come and are not on the list. It would help if you mentioned your county of interest, too. Thanks to Carol for letting me know that District 15 is to the west of the Big Sandy River along the Benton Co. line. I order 4 maps from the USGS (Manleyville, Big Sandy, Poplar Creek, and West Sandy Dike), and now I'm wondering if Carol or anyone else can give me more precise information about the boundaries of Dist. 15, and maybe Dist. 2. I'm planning a trip to Henry Co. in the next few months, and would like a head-start on where to look. Also, if anyone has geographical questions on the SE corner of Henry, I'd be glad to try to answer. Jim

I'd prefer not reinventing the wheel, since I can go in on lineal or collateral members. ***I am especially looking for the births of #s 7 & 8, Minnie Merle Porter and Katherine Merle Reese.*** If anyone can do a look up and/or tell me where to get a birth crtificate, and marriage certificate for Minnine Merle, I'd be grateful. Check out this site for info on an interactive internet Genealogy Talk show. Sounds like fun! Here's a little bit from the article: The first ever "Generations: Find Your Roots" Webcast will occur online from 4-6 p.m. Pacific time (7-9 p.m. Eastern Standard Time). Cyndi Howells, creator of the highly acclaimed Web site, "Cyndi's List of Genealogy Sites on the Internet," will kick-off the show as the first guest. Can anyone tell me where Districts 15 and 2 are located in Henry County? Jim
On December 23, 1845 Thomas M. Williams and Nancy J. Simpson married in Henry County, Tennessee. Thomas stated that he was North Carolina (born March 1822) Nancy (born 3/15/29) said that she was from Tennessee. They went either directly or later to Carroll County as they show up on the 1860 census as living in district 15. Their children in this census are: Martha 12 Levi L. 9 Caban E. 4 William R. 6/12 In 1862 they had another son, Joseph McCall Williams. On April 16, 1864, they had another daughter, Nancy. Her mother Nancy died four days after this daughter was born, April 20,1864. And then Thomas died in May 12. Then the baby died in June. They are all buried in Brown #2 cemetery, which is near Concord. I do not know how they died. William R. (Bill) and Joseph M. both were raised as foster children by of the Brecheen family in Clarksburg (or the Bruncheon family of Clarksdale according to the 1870 census, but this seems to be written incorrectly). I do not know what happened to the child Caban E. Levi and Maticia Ray were married 3/11/68 and seem to have had a child named James who was 1 in the 1870 census. Maticia Ray does not appear on the 1870 census with Levi, but instead his sister Martha and he and James are listed in the district 15 where their parents lived. Is anyone else from this line? My brother and I are trying to trace back to the parents and home areas of Thomas W. McCall and Nancy J. Simpson as well as fill in the puzzle of what happened to Thomas W. McCall and Nancy J. Simpson. Thank you for any help, Wanda Hoerle
James M. Toombs, with wife Nancy and daughter Fannie, 11 months old, was living in Paris, Henry County, TN, at the time of the 1870 census. Later, he and his family moved to St. Louis, MO. I have info on his descendants, but I'd like to find out who his parents and siblings were. Thanks, Pat B.

The census is available on microfilm from the National Archives as the single-roll publication T496, "Census Roll, 1835, of the Cherokee Indians East of the Mississippi". Now thanks to the efforts of Terri Moore, you can access the index to this census on the World Wide Web. There is no complicated search software, just a table of contents leading to alphabetically arranged pages, each of which gives a name and one or more pages (duplication of names appears to be fairly common). Although sparse, this index can be a valuable key to locating your Cherokee ancestors. Its quick access and commonsense approach can help you avoid the expense of ordering a copy of the microfilm if your ancestor's name does not appear, and it provides you with the surety that the microfilm will be helpful if your ancestor's name does appear in the index.
