Nancy Ann PHILLIPS married James M. TOOMBS on Nov. 15, 1863 in Paris, Henry County, TN. They were married by Methodist minister William Diggs. I haven't had any luck finding info about James in Henry County records, so I am seeking information on Nancy and her family. Is Andrew I. PHILLIPS her brother? Pat B. p.berglund@worldnet.att.net or pberglu@sfusd.edu
Hi All, I am new to the group and a descendant of James H. Taylor born in 1817 in TN. He married Lucy Ann Phillips born in 1818 in VA. They were married in Giles Co., in 1834 and had the following children: Olivia A., David, Robert, Mary E., Eliza J., John J. and Zachary. They were living in Giles Co. TN in the 1850 Census, but by 1860 they had left, and they don't show up again until the 1870 Census in Henry Co. TN. Does this family sound familiar to anyone? Help!! I need someone to look-up my great-great-grandfather, Peter F. Gale, on the Henry Cty. 1870 Census and tell me who was in his household, how much land he had, etc. Someone on the Weakley Cty. list told me he was in Henry Cty. in 1870, after being on the Weakley Cty. 1850 census. Hop-hop-hop goes the ancestor! Boy, deceased folks sure get around, don't they?? ;o) I know you'uns are planning a big to-do, so I will be forever in your debt to get some info. Is Peter or wife Mary listed in any of the cemeteries there in Henry Cty.? Peter was 55 in 1870, so I'm thinking he may well have died there. Would LOVE to get a death certificate for him, since I am trying to get the parents. Thanks for all your help. Juliane Gale Bertagne, down here in Houston TX. >Hello Homecomers! > >LOOK!!! Aloha All! I've just found this list and glad I have. My husband's family is from this area, found much information on his Andrews from Stewart Co, and he JUST told me his grandmother isn't from Stewart Co, but Henry Co! My husband is William(Bill) Sidwell(dad's side from Jackson). His grandparents are William Ennis Andrews from Stewart, and Mary Ida Simpson from Henry Co. If these names look familiar to you, PLEASE share your information! Bill is in the Navy and we are stationed in Pearl Harbor(have been here for 10 years). Being so far away from family makes it kinda hard to get information. We are looking forward to moving back east next summer. I look forward to hearing from you all! Cindy Yeargin-Sidwell
Hi, I'm new to this list. I just found it a few days ago on the Henry Co., TN webpage while searching for my Pierce family. I am looking for information on my gr-gr-grandmother, Martha Angelina Pierce, b. ABT 1839 in Henry Co., TN, m. Charles H. Bethany on July 8, 1861 in Henry Co., TN, d. Aug. 1915 Seminole Co., OK. This was Charles Bethany's third marriage and his residence was in Benton Co., TN. He had 7 children and a step-son from his first marriage. He and Martha had twelve children. Yes, he had twenty children including the step-son. I have information from another researcher that Martha's father is listed as Augustus/Augustine Pierce b. Aug. 16, 1798, Mecklenburg, VA, m(1) Catherine?, m(2) Middey Thompson, Feb. 25, 1856 in Henry Co., d. Feb. 24, 1872, Henry Co., TN. Yet another researcher says that Martha was actually Indian and a "foundling" who was left on the doorstep of the Pierce family as an infant. Augustus/Augustine Pierce was a minister. The Pierce's took the child in and raised her as their own. The siblings I have for Martha are: Pinkney S., George W., Mary Jane, and Sarah R. Pierce. She used some of these names for her own children. Augustus/Augustine's father was Stephen Pierce and his mother was Lavinia Geers. Is anyone familiar with this story about Martha being a foundling or possibly connect with any of this family. I have a lot of information on the Bethany clan and most of Charles and Martha's children I am willing to share. However, this is about all I have on the Pierce line. Please contact me if you have further information on any of these folks. Thanks and have a nice day, Jean P.S. Please forgive me if you get two copies of this, as I am posting it to both the Danville Crossing and Henry Co. Lists.
