Is there someone on the Henry Co TN mailing list who could either do some courthouse research (or research at Rhea Public Library) or refer me to a researcher? I would pay for these services. I need to have the will (AND probate records if there's no will) checked for a will or probate record for JOHN CRASS (born circa 1780) who I believe died in Henry Co. between 1840-1850. The Crass name is sometimes spelled CRESS and CROSS. I can supply other info. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Please e-mail me directly at PENNYPEACE@prodigy.net

I just had the priviladge of meeting the man who wrote A PICTORIAL HISTORY OF THE OLD 23rd DISTRICT by LARRY T. PERRY. The book has 454 pictures in it, a map of the Old 23rd District., it has 426 pages, it has many tales and funny stories of the people of that area. I have his address if anyone is interested in this book. Carol cmhh@vci.net

I am seeking information on James Francis Marion Clark. He was born ca 1860 in Paris, TN. On a marriage certificate I recently obtained his father Benjamin Clark was also born there. Can anyone help me? Joyce Collins
Hello Marsha, I am also researching a Taylor family in Henry Co., TN. James H. Taylor b.1817 TN and Lucy Ann Phillips b. 1818 VA were married in 1834 in Giles Co., TN They had the following children: Olivia A., David, Robert, Mary E., Eliza J., John J. and Zachary. They were living in Giles Co. TN in the 1850 Census, but by 1860 they had left, and they don't show up again until the 1870 Census in Henry Co. TN. The youngest son Zachary b. 1861 remained in Henry Co., and married first Floray Ann ? and second Rosa Boyd. He died in Paris, Henry Co., in 1944 and is buried in the Beaver Dam Cemetery next to his first wife Floyay Ann. Does this family sound familiar? I was hoping that maybe there is a connection to your Taylors of Henry Co. Appreciate any information on this man who was the only man to return to the U.S. Congress after serving in the Confederate Congress. Any birth/death dates? Ann in Atlanta
I am also a new subscriber to this list. Researching the above names in Paris, Henry Co.,Tn. Noah Hampton married Ann Love in Rutherford Co., NC. Moved to this area sometime after 1820. In the last census of Rutherford Co that he was in he had 3 daughters older and 4 sons under the age of 16. These sons had to have come with him to Henry Co. Have information on daughters but nothing on the sons. Would anyone have any county census records for 1840-50 so see if any other Hamptons are listed. Thanks you so very much. Roberta

Does anyone have access to the Henry Co 1870 census who could do a lookup for me? I am hunting my gg grandmother, Amanda E. FIELDS HORNSBY [often misspelled - HORNSBERRY, HARNSLEY, etc.]. I think my gg grandfather, Albert B. HORNSBY, was died by 1870 but have no proof. On the 1870 census, Amanda would be about 44 years old and Albert [if alive] would be about 43. Both born in Tenn. Would someone kindly post the information on obtaining marriage certificates? I need one from 1838, in Paris. Thank you very much. Juliane Gale Bertagne, still searching for Peter F. GALE, b. 1814, NC. NC.
Hi, I am new to the list and writing this for my son who is working on his Genealogy Merit Badge in Boy Scouts. (I wonder why he decided to do that particular one!) Anyway, he decided to ask his grandfather information on his side, GRAVES. We are in AL and our library doesn't have TN census records. Could anyone provide some additional information on the following? Census records, marriage date, etc. Ollie B. GRAVES, born in Westmoreland, TN; died 1952 in Paris, TN. Father was Arthur GRAVES (no dates), died in Westmoreland, TN. Minnie M. WATSON (wife to Ollie) born Murfreesboro, TN; died 1983 in Paris, TN. Parents were George WATSON (No dates), lived Murfreesboro, TN and Ida Ivey ? (no dates), lived in Murfreesboro, TN. Ollie and Minnie 8 children, 4 still living, 1 missing. Any information would be appreciated. There is a story behind Ollie and Minnie: Ollie ran away from home at the age of 8 and joined a circus and traveled with it several years. He met Minnie when he was 15 and she was 13. They ran away to get married. They traveled with a carnival and then joined a group of gypsies. They lived in a tent and traveled from place to place until WW2 began. They finally settled down, at which time, my son's grandfather, Bob Steele Graves, Sr., was able to start school.
