    1. To find cemeteries or other geographical place names in the US
    2. Go to this site: _http://geonames.usgs.gov/pls/gnis/web_query.gnis_web_query_form_ (http://geonames.usgs.gov/pls/gnis/web_query.gnis_web_query_form) Enter the state and/or county and/or feature that you are looking for. You can look by name if you know it or look at all the names featured in the county and choose what want. There are many options for map types after you have chosen a place to look at. Play around on the site to see all the ways you can use it. It is a wonderful tool for genealogists. They have been adding features to the site recently so when you look at a list it looks like the names are not in alpha order. They are, but you have to scroll past the added place names to get to the part of the list that is alphabetized. Peggy

    3. Hello, Speaking of Mansfield...Do any of you know where the old Broach Graveyard is in Mansfield? There was supposed to be an old home place that was over 100 years old there (which I have been told burned down). Supposedly the family graveyard was close to the old house. I have been there looking for it, but so far never found it. I can't find listings of the Broaches buried there..Does anyone know anything about the location of the graveyard or the Broaches who are buried there? I would appreciate any info anyone might have. Supposedly my ggg grandparents George & Jane Burch Broach are buried there. Thanks muchly, Joan Broach Morris

    3. Keith, Yes there was "Mule Day" in Paris until some time in the 50's and it was replaced by the Fish Fry. It was literally a day when the farmers brought their mules to town to show off and to trade. If I remember correctly, it was held on Washington St. a few blocks off the court square. I've seen some historical pictures of it but don't have one I can send. You might check with the Paris Genealogy Society and/or the local newspaper. Hope this helps. 3. I want to share some good resources I have located recently through the rootsweb mailing list. Here are a few of my top ones I found most useful: http://www.uswars.net/1775-1783/ List of most units and battles of the revolutionaty war. http://www.itd.nps.gov/cwss/ Great for finding civil war ancestors. http://www.genealogyinc.com/maps/uscf.htm Links to county formation maps. Neat to see how county lines have changed over the years and how you can live in the same location but be located in 3 different counties in a 10 year time frame. http://www.mycensusmaps.com Links to county Census maps. Kinda like the above link only shows every ten years and overlays the previous census year so you can compare the two. VERY USEFUL. http://www.ftm2005.com/ The newest version of Familytreemaker just came out. This site show how much they changed the format from ftm 11. I am wanting to know from someone if it looks like a good investment to purchase the program or just stick with version 11. I could probobly list ALL my favorites but these are new to me and have turned out to be real gems. Lorine Dornin

    2. Coleman and Madison Winchester were two of James Martin Winchester's three sons. These two sons are found in Henry Co., TN 1850 census in the household of Levi King Martin believed to be Jane's brother. James Martin daughter, Nancy, married Coleman Winchester. Therefore, James Martin Winchester was named for his grandfather Martin and James Martin Winchester named his son Coleman after his father. Coleman Winchester of Rockingham Co., NC had a nephew Coleman Winchester who married Letitia Winchester Coleman's daughter. Now, my great grandfather, James Martin Winchester b. 1840 Calloway Co., KY was named for the James Martin Winchester of Rockingham Co., NC, I believe, because my James Martin Winchester's father grew up 200 yards from James Martin Winchester and were about the same age. Coleman's had a great nephew, Nathan Massey Winchester who lived in Henry Co., TN 1860 then died in White Co., AR. Enoch Martin and Nancy Martin were brother and sister. James Martin is not the same James Martin that was brother to Alex Martin first Governor and Martinsville name for him until the Battle of Guilford Court House. Green lost the battle and won the war and now it is called Greensboro, NC. 3. My husband and I visited Paris two weeks ago. We were in Paris City Cem. hunting my Parkers, Matthewsons and Browns by 8:30 a.m. that Mon. morning. The only ones we could find were "Grandma Brown" (Mary J. [Barfield] Brown) and two of her children, so we headed to the Inman Room at the Rhea Library to see if they didn't have a 'map' of the cemetery that might help us. Linda told me there was one, but it couldn't be located. She did have one for Maplewood though, and that was a big help--once we realized that the only people named were the ones who actually purchased the lots. You had one person's name, yet there could be numerous others buried there, too. After enjoying the day at the library, we went out to Maplewood, and had no difficulty at all finding family thanks to help we got at the library. Unfortunately, we were only able to be in Paris from Sun. afternoon until early Tues. morning. I would love to have had at least three days to have spent in Henry Co., and that might not have been enough! I'm just wondering if anyone on the list happens to have a copy of the record or map showing the grave locations in Paris City Cem. If so, I would appreciate hearing from them. Paris is an 11 hour drive for us, so running back and forth is not exactly an option. 3. Just to let you know-----The willful destruction of a cemetery is a felony under the laws of Tennessee.Anyone causing the destruction can be charged with a felony. Further, any landowner can be made to fence a cemetery and allow family members access and can be made to maintain such cemetery under the laws of the State of Tennessee.
