I could really use some help. I am just starting my family tree. I do know that the Parkers in my case hail from Henry County, TN. My great grandmother, Lula Mae Parker, was born there on 29 OCT 1883 (she died February, 1976 in Illinois). She was married to Dudley Parker, who died May 1942 in Illinois. I have no date of birth for Dudley, but my family likewise assures me he was born in Henry County. They had several children: Judson B. Parker, James Parker and Finnus Parker. All died in Illinois. At some point, the family left Henry County (I suspect in the 1930's) and went to Granite City, Illinois where they worked in the steel mills. Although I am starting research of census records, I thought I'd write in to see if there are any connections out there. Thank you. Morgan Parker
I checked the FamilySearch site using the Counties in the USA batch numbers and there it was. I had forgotten Carroll County had more records there that are not on the web site. Sorry about that, Lee. That's what I get for being in a hurry. Thanks for making me be more thorough, Pamela. Peggy
Hi Pamela, May I ask where you found the Chandler marriage? I checked the web site which I thought had all the marriages and didn't find the one you cited. I rechecked and still didn't find it. What am I missing? If there are marriages that I don't know about, I sure wish I knew where they were. Thanks so much. Peggy
There is only one Chandler marriage in Henry County from 1851-1900 and that is Miles Chandler. Carroll County marriages start in 1864 on their web site. There are many Chandler marriages, but none for John or J. C. and none that might be him to a Mary. Peggy
From the census entries listed below it appears that between the years of 1850 and 1870 Elizabeth Anne "Bettie" Roach Chandler died and John C. Chandler remarried a lady named Mary. If anyone has access to the Henry or Carroll County, TN marriages would you please check them to see if there is a marriage listed for John Chandler or J.C. Chandler between 1850 - 1870. Also, if anyone has birth and death dates from any of the folks listed in the census entries I would love to have that information. I look forward to hearing from CHANDLER researchers in the area. Thanks! Lee The 1850 Henry County, TN census lists the family as follows: District 8 - Household 53 - September 16, 1850 Chandler, John/M/29/Farmer/VA Chandler, Elizabeth Anne/F/29/TN Chandler, Mary C/F/6/TN Chandler, James/M/4/TN Chandler, Martha Anne/F/2/TN Chandler, Zachary/M/10 Months/TN This entry was found in the 1870 Henry County, TN Census: District 8 - Henry Station - Household 129 M593_1538 - Page 305 - August 11, 1870 Chandler, J.C./W/M/48/TN/Farmer/$2000/$1000 Chandler, M./W/F/36/TN Chandler, James/W/M/22/TN Chandler, Z./W/M/18/TN Chandler, M/W/F/21/TN Chandler, A/W/F/17/TN Chandler, R.R./W/F/16/TN Chandler, D.V/W/M/8/TN Chandler, R.L/W/M/7/TN Chandler, L.E./W/F/3/TN Chandler, Buddie/W/M/2/TN Chandler, B.L/W/F/1 Month/TN The family is found in the 1880 Henry County, TN Census listed as follows: District 19 - Household 211 - June 18, 1880 T9_1262 - Page 41D Chandler, J.C./W/M/56/Farmer/VA Chandler, Mary/W/F/49/Housekeeper/VA Chandler, Angeline/W/F/25/TN Chandler, Rosey/W/F/23/TN Chandler, Eugene/W/M/20/Laborer/TN Chandler, William/W/M/16/Laborer/TN Chandler, Laura/W/F/13/TN Chandler, Robert/W/M/11/TN Chandler, Birthy/W/F/10/TN Chandler, Lucy/W/F/7/TN
The record came from Carroll County Tennessee Marriages Volume Two, compiled by the Carroll County Historical Society, published in 1988. I don't know why the marriages at the web site don't include all of the ones in the books I have, but I have found other missing records in the past. If you want the other Chandler records I have, let me know. Pamela [email protected] wrote: Hi Pamela, May I ask where you found the Chandler marriage? There are several Chandler marriages in Carroll County, one being a John Chandler who married Mary E. Turner 4/12/1866. I found this in my draft mail - don't know if I ever sent it. From King's History and Biographical Sketches of the 46th Tenn. Infantry, CSA, Henry County: Wainscott, W. C., captured at Island No. 10, sent to Camp Butler, IL. Exchanged Sep 23, 1862, later reported sick and in hospital in Jackson, MS. THANKS AS ALWAYS MARY LOUISE!!! I will certainly give Pogue a look. Joan Broach Morris
Thanks Joy, I will contact them...possibly they know something about my Broach relatives. What have you found out for me on my husband's Lipfords? I was sooo excited to finally make contact with someone that knew of Sam Lipford's family...hoping to learn anything about him & his family. I sent you the info that I knew & I never heard from you again..If you live in the same area as his kin, you have to know more than I do..I would really appreciate anything that you found out. Thanks muchly, Joan Broach Morris
Joan, The library is not open on Sunday as you have already been told but they are open until 7 o'clock on Tuesday and Thursday however I don't think there is a volunteer on duty to help. I am interested in contacting anyone who might be researching the CHANDLER family of Henry County, TN. If you have information about the family below please contact me so we can share and compare information: 1880 HENRY COUNTY, TN CENSUS District 19 - Household 211 - June 18, 1880 T9_1262 Page: 41D Chandler, J.C./W/M/56/Farmer/VA Chandler, Mary/W/F/49/Wife/Keeping House/TN Chandler, Angeline/W/F/25/Daughter/TN Chandler, Rosey/W/F/23/Daughter/TN Chandler, Eugene/W/M/20/Son/TN Chandler, William/W/M/16/Son/TN Chandler, Laura/W/F/13/Daughter/TN Chandler, Robert/W/M/11/Son/TN Chandler, Birthy/W/F/10/Daughter/TN Chandler, Lucy/W/F/7/Daughter/TN I believe that J.C. Can anyone give me some information on Josiah F. Jenkins born 1847. He's son of Thomas W. Jenkins and Mary D. Hill/Brandon. Thomas & Mary lived in Henry Co in the 1840's/50's I think. Most of their children were married in Henry Co and then most moved up to Calloway Co, KY. Josiah had 2 sons: Edward Rufus and Thomas Manley by second wife. Don't know 1st wife, but child was Eugenia. Can anyone connect with any of these Jenkins people? Nina Williams WA State
Thanks for reply to inquiry of Winsett. I am trying to get info on William C Wainscott, b. 1823 in Ky. but lived mostly in Henry Co. Tenn. Hi all As a chemist with over twenty years of teaching experience, I just wanted to clear up an incorrect chemistry statement in the following post: In a message dated 9/4/04 12:03:41 PM Eastern Daylight Time, [email protected] writes: What About Using Graphite? Graphite is a carbon substance. Graphite is used in pencil lead and carbon paper as well as in batteries because graphite contains Sulphuric Acid. Sulphuric Acid is a heavy CORROSIVE oily oxidizing and dehydrating agent. I think corrosive explains enough on why not to use Graphite. We want to save these stones not have them fall apart in our hands. Graphite DOES NOT contain sulphuric acid. Car batteries contain sulphuric acid in the solution surrounding the electrodes. Graphite is one of the elemental forms of the element carbon. It only contains the element carbon. It is not corrosive in a chemical sense, but it is abrasive and may cause damage by that method.
