Would there happen to be in Waddles or Waddells (any other variation) in the Will books? I'm having the dickens of a time finding info on a couple of mine and they lived in both Henry & Carroll. Thanks so much! Delanie
Hello,Peggy. Would you mind checking for any Bowdens or Porters? Thanks, Bee
You're welcome, Joan. My books are from Simmons Publications and they are transcriptions of the original documents. In other words, they are the ones who went blind trying to read the original writing, but then you have the possibility for errors in interpretation. Unless the information is critical to proving a point, the books are a tremendous help. When you have a critical point, you should always try to get the original, just to be sure. I will leave it to you to decide what was meant by "James Broach widow." There was no punctuation, so I just copied what was written. It just seemed wrong in the context of the other entries and I wanted you to know that I had not made an error in reading what was written in the book. There were no entries in any of the books for Lipford. Glad I was able to help. Peggy
Hi Joan, Please don't apologize. Nobody twisted my arm to do this. I'm always happy to help if I can. Henry County Wills, Volume 2 Will Book C, Page 106 George Broach was a buyer at the estate sale of Henry Stith. This item is not dated, but between the August and November, 1833, entries. Thanks sooo much Peggy!! I have been told that when George Sr died their oldest son James stayed & lived with his mother. Possibly that is what James Broach widow means..Yes, it does sound like an error..but that is probably what it is talking about...James Broach & widow..you think??? You have been a tremendous help! In the books that you have are they printed out in original document form or are they get typed off by someone? I know in the Court House in my Co they have books with original documents..but other places all they have is microfilm that has been typed out..not original...I contacted Paris Library & they said they only have microfilm...not a book of original documents.. So I was just wondering if the will books that they sell are only typed copies.. Thanks ever so much...Every little clue gets me closer to getting my pieces fitting into place.. Joan Broach Morris P.S. Would there possibly be any Lipfords mentioned in the book?
Peggy, Sorry to have caused such a stir!! I was hoping to find some of my Broach relatives in the will book. My ggg granddad George Broach died in Henry Co Oct 24, 1842. His son, my gg granddad Sidney Smith Broach died in Oct 2, 1854. But since your book only goes to 1846..I don't guess he would be listed..Would you be so kind & look & see if George is listed in your books? I would really appreciate it.. or if there are any other Broaches listed...I really believe most of them died after 1846... Thanks sooo much, Joan Broach Morris
Hi Edith, There were no entries for Booker in the Henry County Wills Volumes 1-7. Sorry I couldn't be of help to you. Peggy
Peggy, Would you mind checking the name: BOOKER. ? My ggg grandfather was rumored to have moved from Fayette Co., TN to Henry Co., TN after his wife's death in 1843. It is thought he died there a few years later. I appreciate any and all your efforts. Edith
Hi Janis, There were no Snow entries at all in the Henry County Will Volumes 1-7. Sorry I couldn't help. Peggy

Hi Peggy, Would you mind taking a quick look to see if there is anything in the Wills book with the surname of SNOW? Most of my great-great uncle, GREEN P. SNOW's children lived in Calloway County most all their married lives. I would really appreciate it. All I know about this John MARTIN is that he was 41, b in NC, in the 1860 census. He was a farmer with a Conyersville P.O. address, in Dist. 14, and he had md., in the 1840s, Elizabeth "Betsy" (Puckett) HOPE, widow of David Beattie Hope. They had a son Beaty H. Martin 15, and a son John E. Martin 8, listed in that same census. I suspect that the older son Beaty H. was named for Eliz.'s deceased husband David Beattie HOPE. John and Eliz. are also listed, Conyersville P.O., in 1850 with the 4 HOPE boys, son Beatty H. 5 and a son Andrew M. 3. In 1870 they are with son J. E. 18, and son B. H., 25, with his wife Medora and their 2 young children. John must have died by 1880. Eliz., 63, is living with her son B. H. Murtain [sic] and his wife Dora and their children in 1880 in Dist. 14, Henry Co. in 1880. I don't know if John was married before Eliz. or not; if so, his children must have been grown by 1850 (not likely since he was only 30-31 then), or living with (maternal?) relatives, or he didn't have any children from a previous marriage - there probably wasn't one. There was a 54 yr old Abraham Martin, also b NC, and family living two houses/farms away from John in 1860, but it's a fairly common name - may have been an older brother? 3 pages from John and Eliz. in 1860, there was a young John W. MARTIN, 23, and family, also in Conyersville area, b TN, an officer of some sort (unspecified). He lived next to the sheriff and the tax collector. Don't know if he's related to the others ... John MARTIN was named guardian of his HOPE stepsons, David's 4 boys, after his marriage ot Eliz. He bought land (David's farm?) from them and in at least one case, loaned one of them money to buy land, with a HOPE family slave, probably inherited from the boys' grandfather Adam HOPE of Davidson Co. TN, as collateral. Hope this helps... --- [email protected] wrote: > Hi, > > I am interested in your John Martin in Henry > County, Tennessee. Peggy, thank you so much for all this information. It does narrow down the date of death a bit (by or before Oct. 1840). Apparently David had no will, but he was rather young and he probably died suddenly. Odd that his sons are not mentioned though, since they seem to have inherited his farm and then sold it, in adulthood, to their stepfather John Martin, who I think acted as their guardian after marrying their mother. The three oldest boys all died in the Civil War - the youngest also served but survived, as did a young half-brother Beaty [sic] Martin. Thanks again! _______________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Hi Joan, Yes, I have the will books that are available at this time. They only go up to around 1846. Sure wish Simmons Publications would do some more. Are you guys listening??? Let me know if I can help you. Peggy
I hope someone out there can help me. I am looking for the death date and burial place of David Beattie (D. B.) Hope, who lived in the Conyersville area. He died by 1841, maybe as early as 1839 or 1840. I think he was in his 30s at the time. He left a wife (Elizabeth "Betsy" nee Puckett) and four sons, Adam Arthur, Pleasant M., William L. and John "King" Kinkead, all minors. His widow later md. John Martin, also of Henry Co. Do the will books have anything on this David Beattie HOPE that might help narrow down his date of death or give any clue as to his place of burial? Thanks for any help... --- [email protected] wrote: > Hi Joan, > > Yes, I have the will books that are available > at this time. They only go up > to around 1846. Thanks Genie for searching for info on Machison & Handcout. The names were listed along with a Peden & Rodgers Coffin $18.00, and a Bunch & Horseman $19.32. It listed Machison/Madison & Hancout $65.00. The list was in records of Henry Co in 1854. I just assumed it was possibly the name of the Funeral Home. I don't even know if they had Funeral Homes back in 1854. It was just a guess on my part, but obviously I was wrong. Whoever they were they had something to do with my gg granddad. Thanks so much for your help, Joan Broach Morris P.S. I went to the Court House the other day & inquired about the laws about trying to reset or fix tombstones at the old cemeteries. I was told the cemeteries are property of the church, if a church is still present. If no church is there, I have to find the group of people who own it and ask their permission before I can attempt to make repairs. They said every cemetery has a group of people who own & maintain it, or pay to have it maintained. I have to find out who they are & get permission before I can do anything to the graves & stones. So now I guess I will have to start by questioning the lawnmower man. He has to know who pays him.
