    3. I see a James, no "W", listed for the 51st on the NPS's Civil War system. Here's something on the 51st: 51st TENNESSEE INFANTRY REGIMENT Organized January 1, 1862; consolidated with 52nd Tennessee Infantry April, 1862 to form 51st Consolidated; consolidation declared illegal and regiment reorganized April, 1863; formed part of Company "B", 2nd Consolidated Tennessee Infantry April 9, 1865; paroled at Greensboro, North Carolina May 2, 1865. 3. That seems to happen in the best of Henry Co. families. My McCalls have had a plethora of Wiliams, Jameses, Thomases, Annies, in exponential increase by generation. Is genealogy your ancestors getting revenge? Or are you laying them to rest at last by untangling? A belated Halloween musing..... 3. 1850 Henry co. census lists the following: Alex M. McCullough, age 41. Occupation, trader. b. Va. Louisa, age 31, Nancy 15, Isabella 13, James 11, Isaac 10, Sarah 8, Reuben 6, W.W. 4, Martha 2, Alexander 3/12. Everyone except Alex born in Tn. Alex Sr. assets listed as $1600. Certainly not a poor man. Hope this helps you out. Rushing?, also a merchant. 1860 > TENNESSEE > HENRY > MANLEYVILLE P O Series: M653 Roll: 1256 Page: 377 MCCULLOUGH ALEXANDER 50 M W TN TN HENRY MANLEYVILLE P O Alex'r, 50, a farmer, was with Salma 39, Nancy A. Burner 18, Robt. Burner 13, Mary B. Burner 11, and more McCulloughs - Sarah J. 18, Isaac N. 19, Reuben A. 15, John 14, Martha D. 13, Alex'r 11, Robt 8, Randolph B. 6, George A. 4, Colman? 2, and Louisa 1. This Alex'r looks like a good candidate for James W.'s father. He's the only one in Henry Co. old enough to be James' father. A check of the 1850 index might confirm it. (I don't have that index.) Just a guess, but looks like this may have been a second marriage for both Alex'r and Salma, thus the Burner kids. Odd, but James W. does not appear on the roster of the Henry Co. Civil War Regiment, the 46th, but there is a James W. who served in the 44th TN and one in the 55th TN, perhaps the same man since the 55th consolidated with the 44th. I suggest you look for his Civil War records at the one of the National Archives research centers (see http://archives.gov). --- Frank Martin <[email protected]> wrote: > Seeking information on the James Washington > McCullough that was b. 18 > January 1839 and d. 8 April 1865 in Henry > County TN. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? 2. I use Roots Magic along with Family Tree Maker 2005. I find Roots Magic to be very user friendly and does more like I want than Family Tree Maker does, but both are good programs. Roots Magic is the new version for the original people who wrote Family Origins. Either program should do the job. I might suggest that since you haven't started a program yet, you get both and use one for research purposes and keep your files that are verified in the other. 3. Joan, I've been using the free software from the LDS site for a couple of years. I haven't had any problems with it. It is stable as a rock and will do everything I've wanted to do. Since it's free, I suggest you get a copy for your own evaluation. It doesn't store photos directly but provides an easy way to link and display an image on your hard disk to a person's record. Works really well.
