My husband's maternal grandmother was Flossie Finch of Calloway County, Kentucky. I would appreciate it if the records of this family could be sent to the Henry Co. List. Thanks F. I too would love to have the photo and names please. Julie
One of my distant cousins married a FUTRELL. Her name was Sarah JOHNSON. They had a couple of daughters and after leaving Henry County were living in Granite City, IL. Any relationship? I remember that Sarah had the most beautiful red hair. I've got to continue my research to connect which of my Henry County relatives relates her to me, but I do know it's on my WEAKS side of the family. Sarah also had a brother named Richard JOHNSON. Last I heard, he was living in one of the Carolina's until the time of his death. Anybody out there know? Dear Mary, I was wondering if you could please do a lookup for me. My grandfather, Harlan O'Guin (may have been listed as Harlan Gore) was born in June of 1908. Don't know for sure if he was born in Paris or Puryear but his mother was Cora O'Guin (her maiden name as she was unmarried at the time). She later married Jefferson Davis Gore. Cora was the daughter of Newton O'Guin and Elizabeth Geurin. Any scrap you can find about them, I would greatly appreciate. Roxanne Bridegan
While 1901 are the earliest burial records, there are birth dates included in the burial records that go back into the 1800's, which was most helpful to me in my searches. Some records also indicate where the person was born. Also,I want to correct one of my statements in an earlier email where I indicated that Lula WEAKS and Lawrence JONES were my "maternal" grandparents. What a goof I can be. They were my PATERNAL grandparents. I believe I bought my McEvoy book at the McEvoy Funeral Home in Paris......again, my senior moments may have deceived me. I bought the Ridgeway book directly from Melissa Key in Paris TN but I no longer have her address. I would think that by calling either funeral home one could find a source for the purchase. My mother was buried from McEvoy last year...August, 2003, and they keep a copy of the book there for people to view if they're interested in getting copies of funeral records. Yes, Betty, I know; and everyone is so kind and generous. But when I know I'm going to have huge numbers of lookups, over time and want to browse the entries for other info which I don't know to ask for at the moment, I should have the books here. Indentially, I have the 2 vol. set of "Compilation of Henry County,Tennessee Vital Records, 1764-2002. This work was compiled and edited by the Volunteers of the Genealogy Department of the Rhea Library and is a monumental work. It is however an "index" and does not include fill text of original records from the county archives, photos of every grave marker, etc. But I will be happy to do lookups for specific names. If you have huge numbers of folks b, m, d in Henry County, as I do, support the W.G. Rhea Library and the Inman Room Volunteers by buying a copy. Yes, we do have connections here. I have many records on the FINCH, PIERCE, GATELEY families. I, too, have researched the self-inflicted shotgun story and have found nothing to dispute this story. Unless there are others on the list that are interested in more history of these families, I will write you off-line and share the info that I have. It will take me a bit of time to put the info into typewritten form, as I have it all handwritten on genealogy pages. While I do the transcribing, if there are others that would like to see this compliation, just drop a note to the list and I will post it accordingly. Just off the top of my head, though, I would say that you and I share the same ggg grandparents, who were John PIERCE b. ca 1792 in VA, d. ca. 1880 in Henry Co TN and was married to Margaret BROOKS. Their children were William Bedford PIERCE, John Worrell PIERCE, Robert PIERCE, Stephen PIERCE, Reubin PIERCE, Nancy PIERCE and Noah Richard PIERCE. Robert married Mary SNOW Stephen married Sally HOLLIDAY Stephen and Sally PIERCE were my gg grandparents They had a daughter named Sarah PIERCE who married Thomas WEAKS. Sarah and Thomas WEAKS had a daughter named Lula WEAKS who married Lawrence JONES. Lula WEAKS and Lawrence JONES were my maternal grandparents. Robert and Mary SNOW-PIERCE had a daughter named Savannah Alabama PIERCE who married James Gateley....as you know. They also had several other children. Savanah and James GATELEY had twelve (12) children that I have located. If there were more children, I haven't located them yet. One of their daughters, Jimmy Dora GATELEY did, indeed, marry Stephen Horton FINCH. And they had six (6) children that I have found. I personally knew several of the FINCH's and this, too, I have in my records. I'll dig all of this out and forward the info to you off-list. Mary, the list is all about helping each other, so if you have anything specific you're looking for, dont hesitate to post the question. If some one can help, Im sure they will and if not, at least you gave it a shot. Sometimes your post will set there unanswered for a l-o-n-g time and then surprise!, someone with the answer may stumble across it. Ya just never know. Thank you Virginia. I'll follow up. Mary in Gainesville, FL, and still fully employed, so it's a little hard to pop into the library in Paris. My mother was buried from McEvoy last year...August, 2003, and they keep a copy of the book there for people to view if they're interested in getting copies of funeral records. > > Virginia > >>From: "Mike & Betty" <[email protected]> >>Date: 2005/01/09 Sun PM 11:43:57 GMT >>To: [email protected] >>Subject: Re: [TNHENRY] McEvoy Funeral Home Records >> >>The earliest records are 1901. >>B >> >>----- Original Message ----- >>From: <[email protected]> >>To: <[email protected]> >>Sent: Sunday, January 09, 2005 6:27 PM >>Subject: Re: [TNHENRY] McEvoy Funeral Home Records >> >> >> >>>Can anyone tell me if the two Funeral homes mentioned in these emails have >>>records as far back as 1872. Thank you, thank you. And since I am now a member of the Henry County Genealogical Society, and an ardent supporter of the Inman Room, I have people I can ask for more info. I have so many relatives who remained in the Henry County area when my grandfather, Byron Crockett McCall and his new bride Nell Louise Tharpe, along with her parents and a few siblings moved to Nolan County Texas about 1900, that I thought I should try to get the books instead of requesting lookups. Thanks again Mary Mike & Betty wrote: > Sorry Mary, > Heres the exact titles and publisher > McEvoy Funeral Home Records > 1901-1991 > > Turner Publishing Company > Pudacah, Kentucky > (the McEvoy book is VERY price if you buy it). > > Ridgeway Funeral > 1946-1999 > > Does not list a publisher.
