    3. I have written a couple of time about the picture and list for the old Manleyville School. I'm not sure who I should contact for a copy of the list and a picture of the old school. I didn't receive a reply on either of my emails. Could you direct me to the right persons to receive this info. I would be happy to pay for them. Thanks John Lawrence -----Original Message----- From: Wayne McCormick [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Monday, January 10, 2005 12:04 AM To: TN[email protected] Subject: Re: [TNHENRY] OLD MANLEYVILLE SCHOOL PHOTO Joan, I believe I have a photo of the old Manlyville school in my files. I will dig them out and send you a copy tomorrow, if I don't get sidetracked. I have relatives who attended there, I think. I am researching McCormicks who lived in Henry County, mainly around Buchanan. 3. Here is a little more, just to fill the need to know! I will try really hard tonight to scan in the info I have and send it to you otherwise it could be this time next year before you get it. Let me have your email address so I can send it just to you and not bog down the Henry Co list. James Mathis , the father of Adley (who was the father of your John who was married to Kittie), is the younger brother of Thomas Mathis, who is our line. (Thomas had the John Mathis who married Mary Stewart), with me so far??!! Thomas and James had three older brothers John P., William, and Jesse, and then the younger group was Leonard, Josiah, Elizabeth, Daniel, Malinda and Anderson.Their parents were Elizabeth H ELLISON and Thomas MATHIS ( 1796- 1873) His parents were Mary HARMON and Josiah MATHIAS. His Parents were Sarah SUTTON and Isaiah MATHIAS they were married in 1761. His parents were Elizabeth PRATT and John MATHIAS and finally I have his parents as Joanna or Elizabeth WILLIAMS 1695 and George MATTHEWS/MATHES who died in 1699. Going to carve some glass, I will check back in a little while, Debbie -----Original Message----- From: Donna Marshall [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Thursday, January 20, 2005 3:44 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [TNHENRY] Mathis search Debbie, Thanks! 1. SAMUEL LIPFORD
    2. JOAN MORRIS
    3. Joy, I would not dream of asking you to give me personal unlisted phone numbers. I certainly do not want to impose on your time. You were the one that contacted me saying you had info about Sam Lipford & family..I guess I got a little over excited when you told me that Sam lived in your neighbor, and you knew his descendants...some of whom were still alive. It was really a giant step forward to find that Samuel D Lipford was more than a name on a piece of paper. Thanks so much for verifying that for me..I will keep searching for his grave. Hopefully, someday I will find him..I hate loose ends.. The only time I have to work on my genealogy is late at night..and on weekends..It is really hard to get to the libraries in TN since most seem to be closed on Sundays..or possibly just the ones I need to visit. Being as I don't live in TN, I sometime need to rely on the kindness of strangers since seems most of my ancestors came from or past through there at one time or another. You all are really very lucky to have the info at Rhea Library. I have been there twice, and I love the place. I always stumble upon something great when there. The volunteers are unbelievable!! They always seem to know what I want before I even ask for it.. Sorry Joy... I never meant to be an imposition..I thought that was what the mailing list was all about.. 2. JOAN MORRIS
    3. Mary Louise, That sounds like a very good possibility..But the date of birth does not match!! I guess it is possible that who ever committed him could have been mistaken about his date of birth..He did not have a son named Sam that I know of..But this guy could not have just disappeared off the face of the earth..I always thought it very strange that in his mother's obit, it only mentioned 2 living children. So, I naturally assumed that Sam preceded her in death..But, according to all the records that I have been finding, that was not the case... I was shocked to get the info from Virginia saying he was still alive in 1960..My husband should have known him. His great granddad (Sam's brother) practically raised him..He says he never knew his great granddad had a brother.. There is definitely a mystery here..And I do love a "good mystery".. Thanks so much for your help Mary Louise.. 3. Dear List: A very kind lady on this List sent me the pages with the SNOW surname on them from the "Compilation of Henry County, Tennessee Vital Records, 1764 - 2002". For years, we have been attempting to find out where my great great grandparents, WILLIAM and MARY CLAPP SNOW, were buried - we always thought in Graves County. On the list that I received, there is a WILLIAM E. SNOW, 1804 - 1894 (Father) who is buried at Chapel Hill. My William Snow was born in 1802 and did die in 1894. Does anyone know if CHAPEL HILL is still an active cemetery and, if so, who could I contact about this cemetery. Also, if someone has the compilation list, would you please check information for me on GERTIE A. SNOW ROBERTS (married name) and give me any information that is there. Thanks for any and all help. 3. Will contact Joan off line. I found my list and "snoop dog" has already been searching.!!!! Lipford is not my line in anyway and I thought I had already given this to Joan. The work I had done was just to help her. I am actively working on very close to 40 lines for my husband and I so I do stay busy since I do have supposedly another life. haha I apologize to the list members. 1. Re Samuel Lipford
    2. Mary Louise Gossum
    3. Joan, the SSDI shows a Samuel Lipford born 11 Nov 1916, died Feb 1977 in Bolivar, Hardeman Co., TN. Could that be your Samuel Lipford? The secret may be that he was at Bolivar. You know it's Tennessee's equivalent of Hopkinsville in Kentucky. 3. I am at work and tonight I have a 5 hour college class and wont return until 11.00pm (yuck!) so this means I wont be able to get to the info until early tomorrow morning. The information I have at home doesn't list the 2 youngest you mentioned, (Myrtle and ?) but it does have John's wife listed as Kittie. I am not sure I would let the T. initial hang you up as transcripters miss those every now and then. I have a ton of info on the James Mathis line, John's father, almost all of it is information that has been documented by Sue Mathis Frost in her book on the Mathis line. 1. LIPFORDS OF HENRY CO
    2. JOAN MORRIS
    3. Joy, No you never sent the info to me..You told me you would, then you said you had to go talk to some of the relatives that would know..Then later, you told me you did not have time to fool with it. I ask you for their names so I could go talk to them, but you never gave me them either..I thought you said you were related to Idell Lipford..You acted like you had all kinds of Lipford family records..Why would you have thrown them away?? You must not be as dedicated to genealogy as I am!! I never throw "ANYTHING" away..I even save every email that people send me that has anything to do with my family, or even if I think it does!! I have over 4000 saved emails..I would never dream of throwing any of it away..And my husband had better keep his hands off of it also!! I have spent too much time on it all to let "ANYONE" touch it.. Seems like there is a big mystery about Sam Lipford that everyone is trying to keep buried..I don't buy the fact that if he died after 1960, he was buried in an unmarked grave..Even so, there would be records of his death...He had 3 wives, so at least he would have been buried with "1" of them..No need for another headstone..Someone out there knows Sam's story & hopefully, sooner or later I will find them..If you did not want to help me, you should have told me so..I actually thought you were going to finally help me solve the mystery..I have tons of Lipford records even before they came to this country..Sam was a brother to my husband's great grandfather..He is not a main branch..Not finding him, does not hurt my family tree one bit!! I already have the Lipford Lineage!! I just thought it would be nice to find out the big secret about Sam..no one seems to want to tell.. I have a lists of all Sam's children that is accurate...I can go from there..Everything I have found online is all wrong anyway..I just read a message from a Randy Flowers, I believe, and he has it all so mixed up..So, don't believe what you read online.. Sorry you weren't able to help me..But, I'll find Sam sooner or later with or without your help.. Joan Broach Morris -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus. 3. Debbie, Here is my info on John Mathis. He was born in 1858 in Tennessee. His middle name was either Erwin, Irwin or Irvine, think it is Irvine (several grandsons named after him). He married Kittie Ann Griffin in 1879. Their children: Pink Joseph (my grandfather), Rosa C. (Rosie), Charlie, Francis (female), Onie (female), Sampson, Myrtle, & Erton. I can't find anything to confirm John's family but I have some good possibilities. I can't find anything on Onie and Myrtle after they married and left home. My dad remembers them as Onie Cook and Myrtle Pipkins. Myrtle was shown on Sampson's obit as Myrtle Houston! Only adds confusion to the story. If anything you have resembles any of this I would appreciate hearing from you. Thanks!
