Carroll County Democrat Huntingdon, Tennessee Friday, April 5, 1895 Huntingdon’s Mayor After an illness of six weeks, LEVI MCEWEN, mayor, one of our oldest and highly respected citizens, died at his residence on Nashville Street, at 8L00 from consumption, age 69 years. His death was not unexpected. He quietly went to sleep with his wife, son and daughter, and other relatives gathered around. Mayor McEwen was born in Henderson County 1825, and during his residence in that county, held the offices of sheriff and county court clerk for a number of years. He moved here in 1870 and was prominently identified in business interests until 1888 when he was chosen mayor of this town, which he has filled most efficiently. He was married in 1848 to MISS FRANCES THOMAS, who survives him. To this union, four children were born, two of whom, MRS. ELLEN ALGEE and JOHN D. MCEWEN, are living, the other two died some years ago. He was a man of high character… Burial service was conducted at residence yesterday afternoon at 3:30, by REV. J. W. WATERS, burial at Clark cemetery. All business houses were closed.
