    1. Re: [TNHENDER] Christmas Celebration
    2. Interesting question Mike..... Each area has their own customs but my family did the "roundabout." Family members would visit each and every home of family and friends on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. One of those days would be the regular church services that they would attend, greeting some at Church that they wouldn't see during their "roundabout." They would bring fruits decorated in baskets or door decorations of fruits and greenery. Apples were considered a good luck omen, and would always be included in a door hanging. Diner would be the big meal with family and supper was small and what I call pick up suppers, no cooking. The house was not decorated as we do now. The decorations would around the entry inside and the porch outside. -------- This custom was for those that lived in the outlying areas of towns. At New Years someone would start the event, at midnight a rifle or shotgun would be fired. Anyone that would hear this report from the shot, would then fire their gun and pretty soon everyone had wished everyone else a Happy New Year. Merry Christmas to all and a Happy New Year.......
